When did people give their children and pillow and duvet? Iv seen that at 12 months you can give them one but really?

When she went into a toddler bed from her cot, around 20 months.

We moved to a pillow and light quilt when my ds rejected his sleeping bag (and cot) at 18 months. He wriggles out from under the covers now, so I would prefer the sleeping bag if he would tolerate it, but he won't.

Ds1 was in his bag until about 20 months when he outgrew it ds2 was out of s bag as soon as he could roll he despised then he Haa a blanket until 12 months then a cot duvet he's now coming up for 15 months but no pillow yet

DD 22months is still in a sleeping bag. I considered a pillow but she rolls all over the cot and usually sleeps face down so haven't given her one yet. I'm planning on moving her to a bed and giving her a duvet at about 2 1/2. Is 12 months is the minimum safe age from SIDS point of view rather than the best time to introduce?

I kept DS2 in a sleeping bag well after the age of two (you can get them up to 2-3yo size) because my experience with DS1 told me that until they're about three, they kick covers off umpteen times per night and call you to come and replace them. I tried all the tricks including a strap which was meant to hold the blankets in place and the Mumsnet classic trick of standard adult duvet horizontally across the bed with half tucked under the mattress - nope. Never worked here. Keep them in a sleeping bag for as long as you can. If they need extra warmth, you can put additional blankets over the top which they can't kick off because of the sleeping bag.

Pillow - I gave both a pillow around 18mo I guess because they just didn't seem fussed. DS1 usually sleeps with his head on a mountain of stuffed toys and DS2 invariably scrunches his out of the way in the night and ends up sleeping back on the mattress anyway.

My son was about 18 months (he refused to go in a sleeping bag, and it was cold)
My daughter not until she went in to a big bed, she was about 2.5.

At about 20 months when he went into toddler bed. Was in sleeping bag in cot.

My son has only recently stopped using a grobag and he’s 2 3/4. We got him a proper single bed and some of the grobag bed sheets (the pillowcase is sewn into the sheet so they can’t stick their head under it and the duvet zips on so it can’t be kicked off). He’s slept pretty well since.

Elle that's a great idea, thanks for sharing.

D'oh just realised that is the title of this thread. Missed that. Do like the look of the zip on duvet though.

Whizziwig · 07/01/2018 21:48

Mine were in sleeping bags until they went into proper beds about age 2. Even then I think I kept them in sleeping bags for a while as they kept wriggling out from the duvets and couldn't pull them back up so they kept waking up when they got cold.
