Hi babi I feel your pain. I have a 10 (almost 11 month) little boy and we bed share too. He has never really slept in more than 3 hour stretches (ocassasionally the first stretch us 4 hours). After about 2am he's usually up every 2/3 hours. These are good night's for me!
Since he hit sleep regression at 8 months he's been having middle of the night parties too. Sometimes I can get away with him crawling all over the bed between us and I don't interact with him (can be 2 hours) and he goes to sleep by himself. I'm awake the whole time, but just lie there still and rest! Other times I need to sit up, cradle him, feed back to sleep and put on white noise (I use baby sleep app with rain noise playing for his naps and sleep since his sleep regressed at 8 months). In the past I have also put his favourite cartoon on You tube (Gazoon - he loves it! We just use TV in urgent/emergency cases in our house! Think car journey to prevent full blown meltdown and extreme exhaustion in the middle of the night) or also fish videos on you tube. This is when I'm absolutely exhausted and simply cannot sit up/play/entertain etc. My little boy actually watches a bit of TV then gets tired out (not over stimulated) then nuzzles for boobs to go back to sleep... When it first started happening I did often take him downstairs so he could play, however, when I put thought into it I figured he definitely wouldn't stop waking if he knew he'd get to play in the middle of the night!
Fast forward from 8 months to now... We still get some middle of the night parties but not nearly half as many. Some weeks are worse than others, but this can also be linked to learning new skills (crawling, cruising, balancing and now walking) and teething (6 out so far, two more currently on their way!).
Sorry if this is just a rambling mess. I guess I'm just trying to say, and what I keep on repeating to myself, this is a stage, it will not last. Do whatever you need to do to get you to through it (sane, as well rested as possible etc.) I go to bed with my little boy at least a couple of nights a week so I can get a good block of sleep before he starts waking for feeds.
I also go back to work in a couple of weeks, but only 2 days thankfully. Really not sure how I will survive with my tiredness levels, especially if he reverse cycles. However, I am also not ready to night wean or think of any kind of sleep training.
Sarah Ockwell-Smith : Gentle sleep is great if you have time to do some reading on a kindle/app. I get some reading time in while feeding my little boy/getting him to sleep.
If you find anything works really well please do let me know!!
Good luck xxx
