Query about 10 week old up all evening and naptimes

My DD is 10 weeks old and is doing -

  • Wakes between 5am and 7am for a feed (one hour breastfeed)
  • Sleeps three hours
  • Feeds late morning (breastfeed or formula depending on nipple soreness, how much there and what she wants)
  • Awake for hour or two - being carried around and watching the washing machine or me in shower!
  • Next few hours she snacks, has catnaps depending on mood.
  • Feeds between 4 and 6 for an hour (formula by this point normally)
  • Bath between 7 and 8
  • Feeds at 8 (formula) eats a bit, naps a bit then back for more until 10.30 and had 7.5 ozs.

Then if we are lucky she will have zonked off to sleep until morning feed again.

I have a few worries about this - how much sleep does she need during the day? should I be trying to stick to a more rigid routine? How can I shift it so that she goes down earlier in the evening (I know this means she will wake at 3 for a feed but then she should go down for 3 more hours - although she did wake at 3 over the weekend and took 2 hours to feed and resettle).

I go back to work in a couple of months and she will likely be in nursery. Should I stop worrying and see if her routine shifts again?
DH and I would dearly like a bit more evening for us but obviously would like to do what is best for LO.

Any thoughts and others experiences gratefully received.

That sounds wicked! So she's sleeping between 10.30 and 5ish? you're doing very well!!

Sleeping from 10.30 to 5am is fantastic - I wouldn't want to mess with that. In a couple of months she will be completely different baby, so wouldn't worry Sounds like you're doing a great job.

Thank you..

I've been letting her lead and do what she wants as it feels more natural, but was getting a bit concerned that am creating a problem for myself later. As you say though she will have changed again in a few months time.

Mumsnet is the best....
