Hi
I keep hearing lots of different advice on this one so greatful for any advice.
At what are did your baby stop sleeping in a Moses basket for day time naps? Is it by age or weight or developmental stage?
My little one seems to nap well in his during the daytime downstairs and then sleeps in a cot at night. I like him downstairs so I can keep an eye on him and don't have room for a travel cot downstairs.

I don't think there is a recommended age as such just when baby is either too big to comfortably fit or is able to sit up as then there is a risk of falling out. until then i would keep using as long as baby is happy in the moses basket

Try daytime naps in a bouncy chair downstairs.

To answer your question, all of my children:

  • slept in a sidecar cot (full sized cot) next to my bed at night, from birth.
  • a moses basket down stairs just through the neonatal early weeks (up to 4 weeks old) while swaddled
  • a bouncy chair for downstairs naps until 5-6 months
  • 6 months onwards naps in cot upstairs.

Til he no longer fits in it

For cot death prevention they should nap in the same room as you until 6 months. Once they out grow the moses basket a pram, pushchair or sling downstairs or lie down with them upstairs.

Mine napped in their Moses basket downstairs until about 4-5 months. I’d much rather they slept flat on their backs than in a bouncy chair. When they outgrew the Moses basket they had their daytime naps in the carrycot of the pram until 6 months (it was certified safe for night time sleeping). Cot upstairs from 6 months.

The main thing is when they can’t fit or can move. Ds2 is huge so was out of his basket really early. He now naps upstairs in his cot at 5 month but that’s only recent, we switched to a crib when he was out the basket.

Bouncy chairs aren’t recommended more than 30 mins due to sids I believe. But ds sleeps in a separate room for naps which isn’t recommended either, it’s the only place he’ll settle though.

FATEdestiny · 28/12/2017 15:07

That's not true Smoochyschmoo

FATEdestiny · 28/12/2017 15:09

(About the bouncy chairs I meant).

Bouncers are not meant for unsupervised sleep, so not over night or if you are asleep yourself. There is no time limit though. Journal may be thinking of carse at some, which for have a limit on time used. Bouncers are not car seats though.

happymummy12345 · 28/12/2017 15:12

My ds only ever had his crib upstairs. I didn't see the need for daytime sleeps to be downstairs, I simply checked on him regularly and always had the video monitor on. And I hate Moses baskets so I'd never ever use one.
But my ds was in the crib until 4 months, when he got too big for it. Then he went in a cot.
So I'd say when they are too big for it.

Apologies for autocorrect errors in my typing:

"Journal You may be thinking of carse at carseat some sleeps, which for do have a limit on time used..."

Someone was selling one of these www.tinylove.com/en/baby-gear/3-in-1-rocker-napper-red on a local selling site today. Looks like a good compromise between chair and Moses basket.

NapQueen · 28/12/2017 15:21

We had that Napper. It lasted til ds was 8mo. Worth every penny.

Chienrouge · 28/12/2017 15:41

I’d still rather they slept flat than semi upright in a bouncy chair.

Smoochyschmoo · 28/12/2017 16:02

Apologies FATE that was what I’d read on here, as it’s same as car seats as they’re not lying flat...

Although it’s quite hard keeping car seat time to 30 minutes imo! Is that just for the first 6 months?

lookatthestars · 28/12/2017 16:47

Thanks for the advice everyone. Looks like I'll keep him in his Moses basket for a little bit longer then :)
That rocking bed looks great! X

OP, you know baby could sleep perfectly well just lying on the (carpetted) floor. Baby doesnt have to sleep in anything.

You void just snuggle baby to sleep the floor and extract yourself back to the sofa once asleep.
