could he not have a quick nap at 4/5 ish for 20mins just to refresh him enough to last until bedtime. two of my friends lo's used to have a 20 min nap before bathtime/ bedtime just to tide them over. It didn't negatively affect their sleep.

purplemonkeydishwasher · 23/04/2007 14:49

he did that yesterday. was miserable when I woke him! took a walk uptown and he slept for about 45 min this aft!! yay!

hit and miss really.

my dd dropped hers at 17 months.

it was tough for a few months but she soon learned to cope, just make sure he's in bed for long enough through the night... eg; 12 hours or more at least

must say it makes it easier during the day not having to accomodate a nap into our schedule and if she's really shattered she does drop of for 20 mins in late afternoon

LoveMyGirls · 23/04/2007 14:55

My dd seemed to be dropping hers for about a week at 18mths but now i've persevered and she's still napping, she had 2 and half hrs today!

DS1 is 3 in August, and has refused any attempt i've had at getting him to have a nap since he was just under 2 years old.
I feel even now he's not ready to go nap-less.

He went through a phase about 4 months ago of falling asleep on the sofa/floor(!)/infact anywhere at about 5pm, as he was so tired. So now if he gets crabby in the afternoon I put him and his younger brother in the car go for a quick drive...and they're both out like a light.
I only passed my test recently, so before it'd be a walk round the block with the pushchair. That works just as well

Hope you find what works for you

some days he won't sleep even in the pushchair. i end up walking for hours and he's still sitting there looking around!

Hmmm, I don't know then....

How about completely knackering him out playing and running around in the morning followed by a nice hot milk and putting him down after his lunch?

Sorry can't be anymore help..

I have the same problem with my dd who is 16 months. She only has a nap if she gets up really early then goes to bed about 8 oclock. She normally gets up about half eight have tried waking her up before but she cries and goes back to sleep, if she has a nap after 2 oclock its a nightmare getting her to bed by 8.Last night she was up till half ten we cant put her in her cot till shes asleep coz she climbs out and screams at the door.

iTS A PAIN, BUT TRY TO accept (sorry) that he will sleep some days and not others. My DS is 14 months and occasionally wont sleep all day. bizarrely, I have found lately that he sometimes goes down better in the morning - about 10am-, than in the afternoon, so he has 10-11.30am and then goes until 7or 8 pm. It is so hit and miss (sometimes he does 2pm-3.30pm), but I try to make the most of it. He has no routine, so it means I don't have to either, and actually its probably partly due to being dragged about all the time to DD's activities and toddler groups as I can't bear staying at home all day for babies to sleep!

Astrophe · 23/04/2007 16:04

I guess the other thing is that there is always a transition stage between napping and not napping, where they are grumpy and tired. In time I guess he will 'grow into' having no sleep, and you will have a happy baby!

I have a 19 month old DD who seems to be dropping day day sleep . Problem is she isn't exactly the world's best night time sleeper either....
