Not sure whether to post here or feeding....but I'll try here.
My ds2 is only 6 days old and is so relaxed and happy. He has very mild jaundice.....but the midwife wasn't worried. My question is he wants to go 5 hours at night between feeds.....i try and wake him to feed....check on him etc.....but he just stays asleep. I even changed his nappy last night to try and get milk in him. But no joy. My question is do you think I should continue to try and wake him in night? He feeds every 3 hours in daytime.....and sleeps a lot inbetween feeds. Thanks in advance.

So long as his weight gain is on track and the jaundice is clearing up well, I wouldn't wake him unless he has a dirty (not just wet) nappy. Just rejoice in getting such amazing lengths of sleep - it was at least a year before we had anything over 4 hours!

Thats a good point. I'll wait to see what his next weigh in is...which wont be till after christmas now. He was 9lb1 at birth and dropped by 7% at first weigh in to 8lb7. Hopefully now he is 3 hourly feeding during the day he will catch up. And you're right the sleep is nice. Hope it lasts. Smile

You're not supposed to let baby go more than 4h between feeds until baby is back to birth weight and gaining well. Once this is the case, then you can leave baby you sleep as long as he wants to.
