6 weeks difficult naps

Anyone have a newborn that is very difficult to get to nap? Mostly naps by nursing. Sometimes naps by rocking (for about an hour).

Drowsy but awake doesn't work. He will get upset then be up to long (causing him to be overtired).

Not sure how to help the little man sleep well.

( he sleep ok at night)

Do whatever helps him to sleep and is easiest for you at this point, sling, feed to sleep, cuddle on sofa! They are such little dots at this time and the world is a scary place to sleep in! My 9 week old will wake up if I put her down so I let her nap in sling, and then she gets a good few hrs! Smile

keromom - baby at this age should be mostly sleeping all the time. Maximum 45 minutes awake in one go through the day, may be even 30 minutes. And that awake time includes a feed and nappy check.

If should go something like:

  • baby wakes
  • full feed
  • wind
  • nappy check
  • few minutes floor time while checking nappy. First grumble...
  • see if more milk is wanted
  • back to sleep
  • wake and repeat.

In terms of getting baby you sleep, make it as easy as possible for baby to sleep. Key ingredients for good sleep are:

  • full tummy
  • well winded
  • warm enough and comfortable
  • swaddle (to recreate womb conditions)
  • dummy (for comfort sucking)
  • rhythmic movement is sometimes needed.
