ds 7.5 mths old. recently started sleeping through night but i have no idea where we arew nap wise. there's not really a 'typical' day. how are your naps spaced?

bozza - i'd love the first nap earlier but since he wakes so early and the car journey to school rocks him off, I can't prevent it! also, his naps are hit ad miss length wise so if he only has 30 mins he is tired earlier than with a longer one. I'm hoping they even themselves out soon so i can rely on 2 good naps per day. we live in hope

I don't understand anything. Start cleaning oven at time 2 hour nap began yesterday and it lasted 15 mins. DD now passed out in pram in hallway with outdoor clothes, blanket and rain cover on. Probably boiling but I am not touching a thing.

sydney - they are sooo confusing and contrary aren't they . cleanign your oven?! Wow - i am most impressed.....

I should point out that the only reason the oven is being cleaned is that every time I cook anything I nearly start a house fire with all the old food/grease in there... Well, doesn't look as though its being cleaned any time soon unless DH decides to take it on himself.

my mum recently found an old lump of charcoal that had once been a sausage in my oven!

Yes cruisemum I realised what was happening and I think that is where the sticking point is. If he wasn't on the school run he might manage another 1/2-1 hour before his morning nap.

2 naps today - yippee

how long should/do you think lo's can stay awake after last nap and before bed? If bedtime is around 7pm and lo wakes around 3 i don't tend to get him to sleep after that (though I am sure he would if offered)

Cruisemum - DD can only stay awake for 1.5hrs/max 2 so if she wakes at 3 from nap, she needs another one at 4.30/5 before bath but think she's much younger than yours - 19 weeks.

cruisemum1 · 24/04/2007 09:03

do you think it matters that naps are erratic? i would obv prefer 2 reg naps at same time every day but he just won't do it!

syd - my ds was the same at 19 weeks.

Yes IME they need 3 naps ish until they are about 6 months then they drop down to two, or keep 3 small ones as in cruisemum's DS's case. I think at that age they can go probably go a bit longer than 2 hours and you might have an issue getting him to bed at 7 if he had another nap after waking at 3 unless it was really short like 15 mins.
