Sleeping bag tog

I have just clipped the two parts of our duvet together, making it something like 13.5 tog. Our room is 18 degrees at night but the sleeping bag I put DS in is 2.5 tog. Do babies run hotter than we do? I didn't think they did?

Sleeping bags work differently to duvets and children work differently to adults. If you were putting your child in a duvet it should be no more than 4 tog even in cold weather.

Have faith and it will be alright!

I was told that babies grow bag tog is much lower because they can't/don't waft cool air in the when they move. Plus they are sleeping on their 'quilt' which adds extra heat.

13.5 tog - holy crap. Our room is about 19/20 degrees and we're still under a 4 tog duvet! I was a bit worried about DD being warm enough in her sleeping bag but she always seems toasty enough (apart from hands!) when I take her out.

Sleeping bags are warmer than duvets as they are not just on top of you but also underneath. They trap more hear, therefore a much lower tog is needed. If you take your duvet and wrap it round you so it’s underneath too then you’ll find out for yourself.

That said, on a very very cold night I put a thin blanket on top of DS and his 2.5 tog bag.

I have tried putting the duvet underneath me like a sleeping bag/sausage roll, I love it but DH was not impressed! I do feel the cold, I wear pjs, a vest and a jumper to bed! Didn't realise the togs were different, that explains that one. DS is always warm enough, it was just one of the things I wondered about during night feeds.

I use to feel the cold in bed so would wear a hat, made a big difference

I have been thinking exactly the same recently. I've just put my 3 year old in fleece pyjamas and a high tog duvet and blanket as she's so cold but my 5 month old son is in a sleepsuit long sleeved vest and 2.5 tog it just doesn't seem enough. Tonight his room feels so cold I've put a thin cellular blanket on top. I think although his front is warm (belly sleeper) his back and legs haven't got much warmth.

Difference is an adult you self regulate, you will wake and cool yourself down etc.

Babies do not do this and if they overheat can die!! They cannot self regulate well, they don't waken themselves etc.
