What time does you 5 year old go to bed?

I don’t get in from work until 7.30pm so my (nearly) 5yo doesn’t get put to bed until 8.15 and usually asleep by 8.30pm. Is this really awful? He is a good sleeper (always has been) and gets woken up @6.50am for school. At weekends he sleeps until 8.30am ish. What are your thoughts?

If he’s not too tired then it’s fine.
My 4 year old sleeps 7-7 (sometimes later) but she needs it, she’s a wreck without it.

You can’t get him in bed any earlier, so honestly I would just let him catch up on weekends and do your best to get him through the week!

Ds usually goes up about 6, but some nights it’s more like 7:30 by time we get in house. He’s wrecked on those days, but I can’t get in from work etc any earlier so I try not to beat myself up about it Flowers

Mine sleeps 8/8.30 to 6/6.30 but never has to be woken and doesn’t seem tired.

9/9.30, up at 8am.

He is now 6yo, has the same timetable. He doesn't need more than 11 hours sleep, even at weekends we don't get a lie-in!

He has one activity a week, swimming, from 6-7pm, home by 7.30. Otherwise i pick him up from school at 4.30 and he just plays until bed, so lots of downtime.

My 5 year old goes to bed at similar time (in pjs at 7.45 but not asleep til 8.15/8.30). She seems fine with it and still gets up at 6.30am with an occasional lie in til 7. She just doesn’t seem to sleep any longer.
If you can’t put them to bed any earlier and they don’t seem overly tired, I wouldn’t worry.

God, I live in Spain and that is considered early. Last night I went to bed before my neighbours NOISY 2 year old... at 10pm!

Don't worry.

It's not so much the time they go to bed but the total number of hours they sleep. Mine were always asleep by 7 at that age or even 6.30, but they were up at 6. So 11-12hrs a night in total. It sounds as if your son is getting about that, so I wouldn't worry.

In theory, lights out at 8 for mine. I’m impressed yours is capable of a lie on in the weekend, though! Unless he’s actually becoming overtired then between being in bed a bit earlier and having time for some interaction with the important adult(s) in his life, the latter will make more difference to his happiness and your relationship.
