What is this witchcraft?!?! 'The Rabbit that wants to go to sleep'

DD 2.5yo has always been a horrendous sleeper. Got into a bad habit of allowing her to go to bed with us in our bed and settled with this for over a year.
She went to stay at my mums over the weekend and came home with an audiobook. DM kept saying how great it was and that dd fell asleep on her own no problem and had done every time she had stayed at dms over the last year!!!
True to her word DD has fallen asleep on her own every night since listening to the audio book ‘the Rabbit that wants to go to sleep’.

I have no idea how or why it works but honestly I recommend everyone to buy a copy!!!

Worked again tonight

QuietNinjaTardis · 05/11/2017 20:05

What if they wake at night?

GreatBigPolarBear · 05/11/2017 20:07

Reading the book worked for us.

Booagain · 05/11/2017 20:10

I know the history of this book - it’s all about the rhymth of words and sentences. It puts kids in mediative state. You’ve got to finish the story even if they fall asleep before you finish it though - to complete the cycle.

crimsoncurls · 05/11/2017 20:26

I normally just leave the audio book playing until it turns itself off. I wait with DD until she’s asleep then come downstairs and leave it to finish.
I honestly can’t believe how well it works and will be telling every single person I know or bump into about it.

I read your post as my 5 yr old with asd was charging around my bedroom. So I thought fuck it I'll give it a go. It took me longer to download it than it did to put my son to sleep!!! Wow !!! This is amazing !

crimsoncurls · 05/11/2017 20:34

If I hadn’t seen it for myself I wouldn’t believe it! It’s amazing and is now a firm part of our bedtime routine!! Hasn’t failed all week and there have been night where she looked far too awake to settle. So glad it’s helped you as well!

On the one evening that dd did wake up I just restarted the book and waited for her to drift back off again. Our main struggle was getting her to sleep in her own room at a reasonable time rather than in ours. I tend to find once she’s asleep she stays that way, so don’t have a huge amount of experience with reawakening

Where's the OP? C'mere love I want to buy you a drink.

Had some horrendous bedtimes with ds who is nearly 4 over the last few weeks. He has had a cold, been waking up coughing or snotting in the night then sleeping late and then bouncing around until 10.30pm.

Downloaded this witchy little book and after 10 minutes he was sleepy but fighting. And 15 minutes he was gone!

This was after 2 hours of rapid return, threats, promises and all out bribery.

He really didnt want to listen to it tho. Lots of protesting. Told him when it had gone off he could watch paw patrol on my bed.

But it fucking worked.

Dp is also fast asleep. He could hear it from our room.

Am praying it works tomorrow too.

Thanks muchly op!

Would this work for night waking? My 16 month old waking from 2 until gone 5am every single night is breaking me

Bubblysqueak · 06/11/2017 07:43

Worth a try especially as I got it on a free trial.

CarlHickbread · 06/11/2017 09:22

It will only let me add it to my wish list. I have audioble and an Amazon account. Where am I going wrong?

crimsoncurls · 06/11/2017 09:24

DD has only woken one night through the night since using the book and I just restarted it and it settled her again. A lot easier than practically wrestling her to stay in bed

To those asking, if this is hypnosis, the way in which the words are delivered (tone, pace, pauses, volume, emphasis etc) will make a crucial difference to whether it works. So non-hypnotherapists will do best to buy the audiobook. It sounds fab!

Plasticgold · 06/11/2017 09:55

It's great, the book is how I stopped feeding my DD when she was 2.5! I was still doing a bedtime feed at that point but was pregnant so wanted to stop feeding her so we lay down and read the book and she fell asleep.

If you get the book version there are instructions on how to read it, to help with the hypnosis!!

HebeMumsnet · 06/11/2017 10:00

OP - your medal for services to parents is in the post. This sounds great. We're going to suggest the NHS gives a download of this out with your baby's red book.

Muddlingalongalone · 06/11/2017 10:13

Reading it was amazing with dd2 - although we did drop her daytime nap at a similar time.
I think it was about 3 weeks before I actually got to the end of the book!

crimsoncurls · 06/11/2017 16:15

The more people that can hear about his the better! It’s my favourite purchase in a long time!

OP posts:
CarlHickbread · 06/11/2017 20:22

DD hated it! Didn’t work at all... back to the drawing board

Curiousgeorgey · 06/11/2017 22:25

Downloaded it ready to try with 14 month old although think it may be better for older children im desperate!

SleepForTheWeek · 06/11/2017 22:26

It worked for my DD when she was about 2, there is another book too called the elephant who didn’t want to go to sleep.

Unfortunately, after a couple weeks she didn’t want the story anymore 🙄. Never tried audible though

bonbonours · 11/11/2017 23:33

I tried the actual book with my 9 year old, tried to follow the instructions about how to read it (despite feeling a bit daft). It didn't work on her and she didn't want it again. Maybe the audiobook would have been better.
