My DS is 18 months old and has never been a good sleeper we have only had about four of five full nights sleep since he was born, my DH and i take turns getting up we do a night each so it makes it much easier. I wondered how i can get my DS to sleep through, he goes to bed about eight now the clocks have gone forward and wakes at least twice everynight for a little water then goes back to sleep, we have tried to leave him but he seems to cry and cry and i worry about the neighbours and give in. He sleeps with a dummy. The past week or so he has woke and does not seem to want any water or his dummy or the blanket on him noor his comfort toy he wants to come out of his cot which i am reluctant to do as may fall into bad habits. Any one got any ideas, also when should i try to lose the dummy and potty train so much conflicting information.

Many Thanks

My ds2 is 21mths and has just (this week) started sleeping all night. My ds1 was more wakeful and was about 2 when he slept on his own more consistently. What has helped ds2 (I think) is sleeping in a toddler bed rather than a cot - whenever liked his cot much.

But I personally had no problem with picking him up or putting him in our bed (luckily it is very wide) when he woke up and didn't want to go back to sleep in his cot/bed. I took the view that he's only a baby, he'll get used to being on his own.

Ds1 had his dummy until he was about 2.3 and then a fairy came to take it away - she swapped it for some glow in the dark stickers.

Anyway, you can see it won't last forever!
