Hi I'm due to have a third child soon and was think I'm going to put my two kids in the same room together, but to save room I thought bunk beds would be a good idea and will take up less room in a way? I spoke to my mum and she thinks that it could be dangerous but I'm not sure, I cant see my kids wanting to jump off them or anything like that, she said who ever sleeps on the top could fall but there not going to fall far surely ? Has anyone else got children with bunk beds ? Or think it's a bad idea for 3 and 4 year old. Im not sure what to do x

I think most are advertised as 5+ as it's very easy for little ones to get their heads stuck between the bars and hang themselves. There have been a few deaths. The Ikea ones are quite hard for little ones to climb down from as well.

No, they're too young. Safety features (such as width between bars) are based on older children - usually 6+.

Sorry, yes Ikea are 6+ not 5+

Can they share a bed for a few years?

I agree, not before at least 5 (the minimum age is usually 6 actually). What about getting up to go to the loo in the night?

How about a double futon that you can roll up in the day, or airbed that you can put against the wall?

Instead of bunks you could also go for a truckle bed e.g. look at the Ikea Hemnes day bed.

There some really good answers there that I hadn't even thought of to be honest! I completely forgot about the fact they might put there head through the bars or fall in the night if they needed the toilet. Il definitely not risk it then its not worth it, il just let them sleep in seperate beds for a few more years until there old enough. Thank you all for your comments they've really helped :) x

My 3 year old is still in a cot. I strongly suspect she will be at 4 years old too. Cots wouod would save space!
