Is this self-settling ok?

My baby is 4.5 months old and I have a question about the way she goes to sleep. To give a bit of background, she has slept well at night since birth, obviously waking up a lot in the early weeks for feeding but now will happily sleep for 7 hours at a time. Sometimes she will wake up briefly in the night and settle herself back to sleep quite happily without making a noise at all.

I would like reassurance (I hope) that the way she is getting to sleep is ok.

At bedtime after bath etc. I feed her and then put her in her cot. 9 times out of 10 she will cry a little (whingey low-level crying rather than distressed crying) for anywhere between 30 seconds and 5 minutes before sucking her thumb and falling asleep.

Is this ok that she is crying a bit before going to sleep? Its not in the same vein as controlled crying is it?

If I stay with her she becomes more agitated. She actually seems to prefer to be left to her own devices to get to sleep.

Sounds fine. My youngest is the same. It's great to know they are happy and confident enough to get themselves to sleep.

Totally fine! Great that she self-settles. Enjoy it.

Totally fine! Mine is now 10 months and still has a little grumble than I've dared put her to bed, cries for a few minutes, then is conked out all night.

If it's a distressed cry then obviously go and calm baby, but otherwise it's seems normal

Thanks for your replies. One less thing for me to mummy-guilt myself about!
