Dd has been going to MIL's since about 3 months old. Once a week or every other week, to give us a breather IYKWIM.

The last 5 weeks due to illnesses and whatever, dd has been unable to go. Went last night. Cried all night and had about 2 hours sleep. When we got their to pick her up, lots of tears, clinging on, and crying when grandma tried to hold her!

During the 5 weeks break she seems to have developed seperation anxiety, but she knows her grandma, and has always settled well for her!

How to we reintroduce her to it? Never expected this..........

my ds is 8 mo and is beginning to get a bit like this, though no way would he ever sleep anywhere other than his own cot, so well done for getting her used to it early. if she has been poorly, she might still be clingy cos of this? or could be the age thing. perhaps persistance is the best thing?

Oh pants!

Does DD see much of Grandma at other times of the week? Could she spend a couple of hours with her but not the night a couple of times, maybe with a nap there the second time, to lead her in again?

Hope DD settles for Grandma again soon

it's an age thing. most babies do become very attached to mummy at about this age (go through similar at about 18 mo too). it's very common, all I can say is.. she will grow out of it.

have to ask though - why do you feel the need to send her away overnight every other week? is she generally a very difficult baby?

nickytwotimes · 06/04/2007 20:19

wannabe, why not send her to granma's every two weeks? ooh, a lie in! surely mummy deserves that?

fizzbuzz · 06/04/2007 20:21

Well, she has her moments......not difficult, but not exactly easy either. Wakes up a lot at night......

She went every week initially because her grandma wanted to see her, although I missed her. I wanted to do every other week, just to get some sleep.....

9/10 months is the worst age re separation anxiety, isn't it? Sounds like your dd has just forgotten the grandma routine.

wannabe, your post sounds a bit judgmental. I think FB mentioned that it was to give them a breather and why not? If you have loving family members willing to help. Speaking as someone who has a non sleeping baby and no family or friends close by I'd love DD to have that kind of relationship with her grandmother.

Fizbuzz, sounds like you're going to have to go softly softly and get DD and grandma to rebuild their trust.
I agree with Panda, try and se as much of grandma at other times when you're together and build up to the overnighters when she's a bit more relaxed. I wouldn't push it else you might make her more clingy.

fizzbuzz · 06/04/2007 20:24

She has also seen grandma a lot during the 5 week period, just not slept over..

Ahh, shame it might take a bit of time then. Time if I had a pound for everytime someone told me it would solve my problems.

fizzbuzz · 06/04/2007 20:33

Well, have devised cunning plan. I will take her to MIL's during day next week and I will go off for some retail therapy.

Dp, will take her next week and sleep over with her, and I will get a lie in

sounds like a good cunning plan to me . You could also get MIL to put DD to bed at your house maybe, so she has the someone else putting her to bed experience, but in her familiar surroundings?
