9 month old naps

Hello,

I have just taken over childcare of our 9month old for 3 months. Wife has gone back to work.

He's never been a brilliant sleeper, but we got him sleeping through (most of the time) around 5 / 6 months with a bit of help of a phone sleep consultant. Best thing we have ever done.

We are now really struggling with day time naps and it's making the days - and early mornings pretty miserable.

At the moment he normally wakes between 0600 and 0645, we then do 20mins nap around 0920 before putting him down for nap at 1145. The most we get out of him is 1hr 30, but usually about 1hr. We then have to give him 20mins in the afternoon otherwise he is dog tired, usually between 1500 and 1530.

Even with this, he is often going to bed knackered and waking early (last few days have been pre 0600). Fortunately he is pretty much sleeping through.

He often wakes himself up from naps and overnight sleep doing a poo - we give him meat for lunch (1115) and veg / carbs at dinner (1700).

Any ideas? Everyone has said months 9 - 12 of the first year are the most fun, doesn't seem like it at the moment.

Cheers

Those two 20 minute naps are baby not getting into a deep sleep at all, so neither will be restorative naps. How are you getting baby to sleep for daytime naps?

Hi, Thanks for the message!

He falls asleep by himself 90% of the time. The morning and afternoon naps are usually in the Buggy and lunchtime in the cot.

Thanks for your help!

I would suggest making the morning nap a cot nap and a little earlier, say 9am. Then once awake allow for a 2h awake time for lunchtime nap, also in the cot.
