Keeping a wriggly 2 yr old warm

Ds1 is 2, just. His first two winters he wore grobags but won't be this year. He's very tall, and was starting to wake up having got tangled up.

In the absence of the grobags how on earth do you keep them warm at night in winter? The nights are cooler now and he's wearing a vest and warm pj's with socks. But this won't be enough in winter, and he's such a wriggly sleeper he'll never stay under a quilt. He often ends up facing the wrong way, or across the cot.

The gro company have a duvet which zips down the sides on to the sheet so they can't kick it off. Looks good.

yourhandfitswithmine · 16/09/2017 22:35

You can get gro bags up to age 3 I think, could he stay in them?

Sunshinegirl82 · 16/09/2017 22:36

Slumbersac with feet, amazing.

Fleecey walk-in sleeper on top of pyjamas. Grobags uzed to come in size up to eight, if that's any help.

Sparrowlegs248 · 16/09/2017 22:41

The grobags were disturbing his sleep so I am loathe to use them again. Although the ones with feet might work, will have a look, thanks.

May not work for you but I've used a duvet clip from jojomaman for both my dc and it's worked brilliantly - very cheap (£8 maybe?) and works with normal bedding so won't be outgrown or too hot etc

Basically it's a piece of elastic with a special clip on each end, the elastic goes under the mattress and the clips attach to each side of the duvet. I put it about half way up the duvet. It keeps the duvet roughly in the right place without them feeling too restricted.

sourpatchkid · 16/09/2017 22:45

Ace! My sh really wants his own grobag 😆that's one Xmas present sorted

Threenme · 16/09/2017 22:46

Fleece onesie over pjs

Sunshinegirl82 · 16/09/2017 22:47

The ones with feet are brilliant, they don't get tangled up at all and can pull themselves up in the cot without falling over! I reckon the adult slumbersacs would be great for co-sleeping!

Sevendaysinaweek · 16/09/2017 22:52

We went through a phase of using an adult size duvet but tucking it in horizontally to keep it in place. Worked well!

I kind of want an adult slumbersac...

Fleece zip-up onesie over bodysuit & cotton PJ's is what we used for younger DC before we had central heating put in.
The onesies with feet attached were best as they wouldn't get drafty ankles with wriggling in their sleep.

Bit of a faff for using the toilet in the middle of the night, but that shouldn't be an issue for your DS at his age.

ILoveMyMonkey · 16/09/2017 23:01

Tesco have currently got some fleece PJ's (my son wore them camping over his normal PJ's). www.tesco.com/direct/ff-striped-fleece-pyjamas/470-0181.prd

Or turn the duvet sideways and tuck it in on both sides - no escape, add a fleece fitted sheet underneath and a blanket on top.

TheABC · 16/09/2017 23:01

Fleece pjamas. My 15 month old hates any type of duvet or sleeping sack on her, so I dress her warmly and add a lightweight fleece blanket when asleep (or just use her as a hot water bottle).

skankingpiglet · 17/09/2017 01:22

Does he have a pillow yet? I've found giving them one kind of anchors their head and stops them travelling around the bed. A duvet then becomes an option. We use a single (on a cot bed) fitted sideways and tucked under the mattress. )

venys · 17/09/2017 01:30

Just fleece or wool PJ's here but we have central heating. None of my kids like any kind of blanket at that age.

Sparrowlegs248 · 17/09/2017 09:47

He hasn't got a pillow but I can try one, I didn't think.hed stay on it but it might encourage him to stay in the right place. I don't think the duvet clip/zips would work as he doesn't just lay down and go to sleep, he'd be out of it before he fell asleep.

We've got central heating but I'm.not keen on having it on all night.
