ds 10mo is growing out of his latest growbag and it makes sense to get him in pj's (would be so much cheaper) - what do you use as a quilt? had him in fleecey baby grow last couple of nights with a sheet and blanket over him but he keeps waking up as kicking off the covers (thats why he went into a growbag at 6 weeks!) any ideas? I can't keep him in growbags forever

Why not?

Ds came out of his at just over 3.

dd in one now. Only just got her into it actually at 18 months.

ComeOVeneer · 04/04/2007 19:31

DD was in her's until 3 when she moved into a bed. DS is 2 and we have just stopped as he took it off all the time and wanteda duvet like his sister. If you buy 2nd hand or not actual grobag branded ones they are cheaper.

clairemow · 04/04/2007 19:36

another why not? DS1 was in one until he moved to a bed at just under 2 (and he'd have been in it and the cot longer if I hadn't got pg and been unable to lift him in and out...). I think they're great. You can get them to fit right up to 18 - 36 months, and they're huge!

ucm · 04/04/2007 19:39

I would keep with the larger grobags and if he doesn't like them, move onto fleece bodysuits.

Walnutshell · 04/04/2007 19:40

GroWbags, LOL!
Well, THANK GOD I discovered these little saviours around 2 months. Ds now 17m and still in them and I'm considering buying the next size 18-36m to use until he is at least 2-2.5 as he is all over his cot at night. Besides I reckon he likes his little Grobag (or even the John Lewis or whatever other version!)

Btw, not sure what you mean about pj's being cheaper - we put him into a vest (winter time), normal pajamas and then the Grobag (or bedbag as we call them. 2.5 tog winter, 1.0 tog summer. And, um, I've only got ONE winter bag and ONE summer! Wash and tumble every week. No good if you have a sicky baby though I suppose.

DS is 2.10 yrs and he will be coming out of grobags next month when he goes into a big-boy's bed. Tchibo are often very good for good value, larger sleeping bags. But you have to keep an eye out for them.

MillBill · 04/04/2007 19:42

Ds had his grobag til he was 18 months. We converted his cot to a toddler bed which meant a grobag would be unsafe (if he fell out of bed). So got a toddler duvet and pjs. Doesn't need a vest in this weather.

Lullabunnyloo · 04/04/2007 19:43

gro bags for as long as poss imo
they sleep so much more soundly in them

Walnutshell · 04/04/2007 19:43

And look well cute.

ComeOVeneer · 04/04/2007 19:43

What about a childsize zip up sleeping bag (like you use for camping) that way he can't kick the covers off?

ChasingRabbits · 04/04/2007 19:49

again another why not, ds1 was around 20mo when i started with a duvet - it was summer and didn't matter if he kicked it off, and got him used to if for when he went in a bed at 2y3m.

ds2 is 14mo and no way am i thinking of taking him out of it yet.

insywinsyspider · 04/04/2007 19:58

LOL over welming support for growbags!! (or similar brands!) this year we've needed 2 of each togg - for the 0-6 mo we had 4! that was the motivation for pj's as i can get them for £3 a set and use a vest underneath

I'll need both 2.5 and lower togg for summer... will have to see if can get some secondhand

eBay's a good place to go but make sure you don't pay over the odds. And NCT sales are brill - there are usually loads there.

yomellamoHelly · 04/04/2007 20:11

Ds1 was in his grobags until he was about 20 months. We moved him to a bed at 22 months and I was gearing him up to getting used to a duvet etc. He was very tightly tucked in, though, for at least 6 months to get over the change.

ChasingRabbits · 04/04/2007 20:19

is he sicky?
I had a 0-6 (for ds2, ds1 went in the 6-18mo at 3mo when he went out of the moses basket), 2 x 6-18 (ds1 used them to 20mo and still fitted them but it was too warm) and a 18-36mo.
I think I only wished I had an extra spare once or twice.

princessmelTingChoccyEggs · 04/04/2007 20:55

We have a towelling one thats a low tog, not sure of the exact tog rating. Washed so much the writing on label has faded away.
Anyway what I'm trying to say is that it works all year round. I just change the clothes dd wears underneath. Tonight she's in a vest an pjs. In winter she wore a vest and fleecy all in one. In summer just a vest then on boiling days just a nappy.

Monkeybar · 04/04/2007 21:01

My 20 month old ds is in a long sleeved vest and then a fleece sleepsuit and that's it! He STILL kicks off covers like he did as a newborn, which is why he went in a grobag in the first place, but once he started walking he got very frustrated in it. We have a heater on a thermostat in hes room, so I know he doesn't get cold without covers. (At least I don't think he does - he seems to sleep well enough without!)

insywinsyspider · 04/04/2007 21:34

last summer was just too hot for standard 2.5tog - had to get 0.5 tog growbag from mothercare (was worried he'd stop sleeping through!) our house get very warm in the summer so i'll need one of each thickness

thanks for all your replies - will keep an eye out at next NCT sale in couple of weeks and on ebay
