hello

my DS is 6 wks old and has never really slept much during the day tho has th occaisional nap. He has always had a good pattern at night tho -falls asleep around 8pm in his rocker in the lounge with us then we take him upstairs when we go to bed around 10.30 then when he wakes for a feed around 12.30/1am my DH gives him bottle of EBM and puts him in his hammock (amby baby) where he sleeps waking for his next feed then settling again til next feed (around every 3 hours at the moment).

However I have never put him to sleep in his hammock during the day or for that first part of the evening -he's always been with us and am wondering if I should be trying to do that now?

I'm still at the point where I haven't really left him but am frightened of creating a rod for my own back. We've always liked having him with us in the evenings and the idea of him being alone upstairs while we're downstairs seems a bit weird any thoughts?

Also when will he start to go longer through the night -am not expecting him to sleep through yet but would be good if he went for slightly longer between feeds -he is bfed.

Do what feels right for you, your baby is still very young!

I suggest you try giving him a dream feed at around 10:30pm if you're not already.

How does the dream feeding work? I've read about it but never understood i and don't want to wake him during his only decent stretch of sleep!

Vmama, the dream feed is a feed given around 10:30pm, you don't actually wake your baby as they feed whilst still sleeping...It can be very effective in helping baby sleep past the normal 1/2am wake up...Good luck.
