Overnight nappy leaks

I'm hoping someone has some advice! My son is about 20lb and 8 months and almost every morning he is damp. The dampness is coming out of the front of the waistband of his nappy. The front of the nappy is always saturated.

I've tried 4 and 4+ in both Morrison's and pampers and both have leaked. He's definitely pointing downwards! Nappy on ok - happens when both me and dh do the nappy (I wondered whether it was dh's technique but it happens for me too!). Nappy fit also.seems ok.

Any suggestions?

I changed to the pampers pants & we haven't had any morning leaks since. My LO is so wriggly through the night, I think he somehow manages to wriggle normal nappies a bit loose.

Hunkle · 13/09/2017 07:47

Maybe try a size 3?

Lidls are amazing & so are Tescos own.

Pampers leaked for us. You wont need active fit or anything.

Do you make sure the elastic is smooth around the legs? Run your finger around it, to straighten it. So its not rucked.

A 3 might be a snugger fit.

I wouldnt go bigger.

I agree with hunkle on the Tesco ones (haven't tried the Lidl). The Tesco nappies hold a lot of volume and are the best shape on my boy.

He's been in size 4s for ages but I'll see if I can steal a couple of 3s off a friend. Will also try Tesco, thanks

My DS was the same about this age. Didn't matter what brand I used he still leaked.
I resorted to putting a Tena Lady nighttime pad in his nappy at night. Problem solved!

When he turned one he started taking a bit less milk at night and didn't need the pad.

I had this issue with DS and always went a size bigger at night. So a size 5 in this case. It worked for us.

HumpHumpWhale · 13/09/2017 08:30

I had this with DD. I went up a size at night. I find Lidl nappies really good.

Prusik · 13/09/2017 08:31

He's always moved up nappy sizes earlier than the recommendation.. normally because of leg leaks. I don't think his body shape helps. I really thought the pampers was going work as it fitted really well.last night. He's a tall, skinny baby with very chunky thighs. Clothes are a nightmare Hmm

Have you tried Dry night? This worked for us. You may also want to check how warn the room is. If it is too hot, they wee more.

drinkyourmilk · 13/09/2017 09:08

My tall skinny girl with chunky thighs does well in tesco nappies. Morrisons was ok too. Nothing else seems to fit well.

flapjackfairy · 13/09/2017 09:11

I think pampers are rubbish compared to tesco or sainsburys and aldi nappies are pretty good as well. And much cheaper !

silkpyjamasallday · 13/09/2017 09:13

I've never really gone on the recommended weight for nappy size, DD has an extremely rotund belly and incredibly chunky thighs and at 1 year old and about 21lbs she is in size 5 pampers and has been for the last few months even though she technically isn't heavy enough. She has been in a size bigger than she 'should' be in from early on and we never get leaks of one kind or the other. Try a size up and a size down in a few different brands and see what works for your DS's body shape as imo it is shape that is crucial rather than weight.

I'm wondering whether the issue started when we changed over to PJ's. Anyone have any ideas about that one? Whether the waistband is causing the problem

You can put a larger nappy over a correct sized nappy. I find it transfers to my DSs pyjamas and leaks if his pyjama bottoms are over the top of his nappy as they can go inside when he's wriggling.

ForgetAboutSleep · 13/09/2017 14:16

Another vote for Tesco nappies. Although we use the purple ones (Tesco version of active fit) instead of the dry night ones - the dry night ones leaked every night ironically.

Sparrowlegs248 · 16/09/2017 22:26

I have this issue with my large 7 month old, and with my 2 year old! Pampers don't work for either. Tesco appear to fold down at the front for the toddler making leaks worse. He's in size 6, he's very tall, but slim.

Baby is a chunk. Both do best in sainsbury as I find the elasticated back really helps for a snug fit at the waist.

I change the baby in the night if I can be bothered but it's a faff as generally he only stirs, I feed him and he drifts off (cosleeping) whereas if I change him he wakes.
