10 month old tosses and turns all night long. Sitting & standing in her cot.

My almost 10 month old has been tossing and Turing constantly during the night. She will be sound asleep and all of a sudden sit herself up. Stand up at the cot side. Cry and whinge, roll all over her cot. (She seems to still be half asleep if not asleep when doing this) This happens all night long and I'm getting out of bed 10-15 times a night to lay her back down and get her back off to sleep. She then wakes between 5&6 for a bottle and won't go back to sleep but once I take her downstairs all she does is cry and whinge for the next two hours until she needs to have a nap because she looks exhausted. This has been going on for about a month now and it's starting to take its toll on me and I'm feeling like a walking zombie. Not sure how much more of it I can take. 😩 has anyone else had this problem or know what could be causing it ??

Sleep going to pot around the time of the motor skill developments is normal. You could do with teaching her to be still in order to sleep, this doesn't come naturally to many and so has to be taught.

I kept the cot next to my bed through this phase and didn't move to own room until afterwards, for exactly the reason you are facing - all the getting up and going through to baby all the time is completely exhausting. Having the cot next to your bed makes no difference to the waking, but does make it a hell of a lot easier to deal with.

Then it's about constantly lying baby back down. Your hand firmly on baby's chest/back/side as settling to sleep in the cot reiterates the need to be still and calm in order to go to sleep.

Any squirming against your firm hand then try shushing and patting but if still insisting on moving around then I'd lift baby slightly (just a few cm) and out put back down, resettling with firm hand on chest/back/side. And squirming, lift and resettle. Repeat over and over and over again. Eventually baby will stay still once put down with your hand on them. Keep your hand there until fully settling ibt o slerp then remove your hand.

The more you do this, the more consistant you are, the quicker baby will accept the fundamental need that in order to go to sleep he must lie down and be still - that nothing else is ok or acceptable when going to sleep.

All this can be done with you stood next to the cot and the cot in baby's room. If you have the commitment to see it through while not in your bed, then it's fine. I just preferred to do the hand on chest settling thing while lying in bed.

She is right at the side of my bed I'm laid directly next to her my arm fits through the cot bars I lay her down and pat and shush her she goes back off almost instantly but is back up within 15-20 mins doing the same Thing again

I realise I've said getting out of bed in my original post. This was a mistake. I meant I'm waking and having to sit up to sort her out. But tbh feels just as bad as having to get up physically. Broken sleep is broken sleep at the end of the day and whether physically getting up out of bed or not it's still a real struggle

My DS has been doing this for the last 5 or so weeks. He was waking himself up from standing up nearly every hour now it's only 2-3 times a night, with the last wake up including a feed (he can't make it all the way through, we've tried! This is its own thread! Hmm) I know he can get down again so I've started having to leave him and he is getting better. I'm afraid it's one of those 'wait it out' phases. Good luck, I k ow how you feel

Definitely a struggle but won't be forever OP. I believe 8-10 months sleep can be a bit rough (I've got a 7mo so yay! Nearly there Confused) - I reckon you'll find within a week or so it'll settle.

My 10 month old daughter does this too. Last night was really bad and I've been feeling awful today as a result of not getting enough sleep. I hope it ends soon as I feel as if we are going backwards

My 8 month old son does this too. It's exhausting. We've tried FATEs "you must lie down in the cot" thing but he just either starts thumping his legs like a maniac or having a tantrum. And if you leave him to it he tries to scale the side of the cot and pitch himself out Hmm I am hoping it's just a phase and will correct itself eventually...but sympathies, OP, it's tough.
