Unless she's on me or dh. And I'm so sick of people saying 'you'll make a rod for your own back holding her' well maybe so, but I'm bloody tired so if she sleep like that then so be it. She just grunts and whinges all night if she's not on us and I don't know what to do. I'm trying to persevere with just letting her do this but I'm so exhausted I dread the nights. Has anyone else had this??

Save your money regarding the sleepyhead and use a rolled up towel in a U shape instead.

That with a worn nighty of mine and a hot water bottle in there before put down, did wonders for us around this age.

@Mumagain2017 personally I think Gina Ford is the absolute worst 😂 I would just go with the flow personally, that's what I am doing. At 7 months I can put her down drowsy sometimes, not all the time. I know the day will come when she is ready!

Polgaraisbloodylate · 13/09/2017 10:05

And a sling for day time naps helped too.

Mumagain2017 · 13/09/2017 10:09

Oh btw we cosleep when I give up through exhaustion usually 4 or 5am and she sleeps...like a baby...until 7 or 7.30Hmm

crazycatlady5 · 13/09/2017 10:10

I still cosleep at 7 months 😂 Starts off in her cot and then comes in with us.

Mumagain2017 · 13/09/2017 10:11

@crazycatlady

And box sets are being watched copiously Grin

Gina Ford is a monster, I agree!! Silly woman

At night once she is put down she will moan and groan for an hour and then cry to be picked up.

She's not getting into a deep sleep. Do you have a dummy?

I would suggest investing 20 minutes or so to getting her to sleep, in the cot with a dummy, after her feed. You already mention swaddling, bf and formula top up. So i wouod suggest:

  • breastfeed (until asleep)
  • wind until a burp (will rouse slightly from sleep)
  • put baby into swaddle
  • give formula top up with swaddled baby in a cradle hold with baby's head above her stomach.
  • into your shoulder for a 5 minute upright back rub. Baby may start dozing on your shoulder
  • lower baby into cot.
  • keep your hand, quite firmly and fingers spread wide to cover a large area, on baby's chest. This touch reassurance is important.
  • put dummy into baby's mouth. Tap the outside of the dummy gently with your feee hand to get her sucking.
  • keep your head close to baby's head in the cot. Ensure baby can feel your breath on her cheek and hear you breathing in her ear.
  • stay there, quite still and quiet. Baby in cot, your hand on chest, reinserting dummy as needed, head close to babies. Still and calm and wait until baby goes still and quiet. It might be 10 or 20 minutes, don't rush.
  • if any squirming or movement from baby, gentle shushhhh in baby's ear, lift and drop your fingers to do tiny pats in order to settle baby. Dummy reinserts if needed too. Once baby is calm, you stop and just stay close, stay still and wait until baby is in a deep sleep.
  • once baby has stilled and is going to sleep, stay for another 5 minutes or so. Keep head close to babies and firm hand on chest. Dummy may fall as muscles go lump, this is ok just move dummy away - it's finished its job now.
  • after several minutes of deep sleep, gently and slowly start to extract yourself and leave baby to sleep.

Wow tbank you for that lengthy reply. I agree I don't think she is going into a deep sleep. She does between 7 or 8 till 11 ish some nights totally quiet and still but then as you say just dozes really for an hour or so test of the night till she comes in bed with me then 2 hours of deep sleep.
I gave got a dummy and will try again tonight thank you very much xx
