Hi all - I bedshare with my 7mo and she's just started to become very mobile. I knew this day would come but still haven't worked out what to do - she sleeps on the bed at nighttime when I'm downstairs but I watch the monitor like a hawk and would immediately go up if she started moving around on the bed, but what about the middle of the night? I'm going to be sidecarring the cot to my side of the bed soon - but what if she creeps over/around me in the night? I'm a very light sleeper so I can't see it happening but am feeling concerned. Anything I can do OTHER than getting rid of the bed frame? Ideally that would be a last resort.

Mattress on the floor is the safest way to do this if baby is left unattended. Especially so until baby can safely be taught the reverse crawl and dangle-drop to get off the bed safely.

I properly would not feel comfortable leaving my baby unattended on a high surface once mobile but when not yet able to get off safely.

I mean, there are ways to mitigate the risk. Bed guards, double length bed guards, foam wedges, pool noodles. It depends on your attitude to risk really.

Personally speaking, I'd work on teaching to safely get off the bed as a matter of priority. Stair descending is a similar skill set, for practice. By until then, I'd not leave baby unattended. If I was cosleeping full time, I'd do a floor bed.
