Daytime naps and reflux/wind

My 4 month old had suffered with reflux from birth. He is now on Aptamil anti reflux milk and this has helped a lot in keeping the milk down.
We are having trouble with daytime naps as he seems to get disturbed by wind. He always does a good burp after his feed and on the health visitors advice we have given gripe water and do tummy massage and wind him again before he goes down for a nap. I have also been doing tummy time in the hope that differnet positions will help get all his wind up.This worked for a few days but he is waking with wind again now.
He does not have any trouble with this at night and goes to bed straight after having his bottle and sleeps through the night ( lucky I know).
I wondered whether this is something to do with silent reflux and even though the thickened milk has helped stop him being sick its still coming up in his throat?

Any thoughts/experiences appreciated

What is happening with his daytime naps to make you think it's wind?

Daytime naps will always require more effort to get baby to sleep than night time. Daytime naps will be shorter than at night, short naps are developmentally normal.

Add into that the changes that happen to sleep around 4 months old, sleep often gets harder around this time any way and needs more effort to get baby to sleep and stay asleep.

It could be that it's not wind issues causing the sleep issue. It could easily be something else.

Do you have a reflux diagnosis from your GP and reflux medication? This would be a good place to start if not. There are different types of reflux medication and you often have to start with the milder ones before you get the right medication that works.

Once reflux is under proper medical control then as long as you do adequate winding, that should be enough to ease wind/digestion pain.

That, however, may well not make any difference to sleep if the issue is something else sleep related.

How do you get baby to sleep in the day? How long between naps and how long are the naps usually? Where does baby sleep?

He will sleep for around 40 mins (typical sleep cycle) and the wake crying sometimes with quite a sharp shriek. If i pick him up then most occasions a big burp will follow soon after. Sometimes if i'm lucky i can settle him back to sleep but other times that is it and he doesn't get into that deep sleep stage.

He is my 2nd baby and with my 1st it took a fair bit of effort to get her daytime nap routine sorted but she would have 1-1 and a 1/2 hours in the morning 1 and a 1/2 to 2 hours at lunch and then 40 mins in the afternoon.

We tried gaviscon from our GP but that caused constipation and his symptoms improved so much with the thick milk as in he wasn't sleeping at all before that we didn't try anything else.

He naps in his cot in his own room and is really good at soothing himself off to sleep once i put him down, he generally can manage to be awake for about and hour and a half at a time.

Have you tried raising one end of the cot? He could also nap in something that holds him in a head-raised position like a bouncy chair.

Mine have all had times where they 'brew' a burp whilst sleeping. It's like all the stomach contents settle and air collects together. Quite often I'd be faced with a burp immediately in lifting baby. But in mine this didn't cause pain. It may be different in a baby with reflux.

Yes we have elevated the end of the cot. Thanks for your thoughts
