What blankets etc do you use at night for toddler? DS waking with cold hands in the morning.

DS is 15 months and sooooo wriggly at night. He moves from one end of the cot to the other and changes positions all the time and is often lying sideways so I can't really use blankets. It's been ok in the warm weather as he sleeps fine in just pyjamas. I've noticed as it's got a bit cooler that his hands (and sometimes feet) are really cold in the morning when he wakes up. He wears a sleeping bag when it's colder and I've just ordered one with legs in but obviously there'll still be nothing to keep his hands warm. It doesn't wake him in the night so perhaps he doesn't feel cold but they really feel cold to touch. Any suggestions?

Why are you worried if he isn't? Seems wierd to me to sleep with hands out but babies don't seem to mind.

They just feel so cold! (Especially when he shoves them down my top whilst I bf him in the morning!)

Unless he is waking up cold as opposed to cold hands, what does it matter? He might be wriggling because he gets so hot (my dd certainly did and I had to be careful not to over layer her at night).

What is his room temp? You could stick the heating to come on for a couple of hours in the early hours to take the edge off, so it's around 18c in his room.

Probably because he is overall a bit cold. When he's warmer his hands will be too.

Sleeping bag? Mine were / are all in them till moving to beds aged about 3. You can get them with arms for very cold nights. And fleece onesies (our house is cold).

welshweasel · 02/09/2017 07:39

Babies have cold hands, it's fine. Mine is always in a bag, ranging from 0.5 tog up to 2.5 depending on the temp.

The Gro company do sleepsuits with quilted arms. Worth a try?

catsarenice · 02/09/2017 07:47

Thank you! Ive got sleeping bags and arm ones just wondered if other babies slept in anything with their hands tucked in but I guess not! Not actually worried about it, it's just that I've still been wearing long sleeves long legged pyjamas and a thick duvet and still feel chilly whereas DS seems fine apart from hands and sometimes feet!! Perhaps he's got DPs heat settings rather than mine!!! (Many a thermostat argument in my house!!)

Cold hands, warm heart, I was told. As in, as long as their core is warm, it's ok for hands to feel cold. As long as it's not waking him up uncomfortable.

INeedNewShoes · 02/09/2017 10:47

I'd worry about overheating if you were to cover LO's hands.

Long sleeved vests. Most of them seem to have arms that are far too long, just unroll over hands. Easy.

HateSummer · 02/09/2017 11:03

There's nothing wrong with cold hands. He'll learn to put them under the covers as he grows up! Please don't start putting him in fleecy onesies and warmer clothes for bed time, this is silly and will overheat his torso.

catsarenice · 02/09/2017 11:18

Definitely not going to put more layers on him!!!
