Is my baby's bed time too late?

My DS is 7 months old and we have got into a routine of him going to bed between 9pm-10pm and waking up around 8-8.30am. He usually sleeps through the night. As my DH gets home around 7pm if he had an earlier bed time he wouldn't see him and I'd be doing the bedtime routine alone. All my friends babies go to bed much earlier and my parents make me feel like it's not good that he goes to bed so late. What do you think?

I think if it works for you then I don't see why it's a problem honestly. I think it's more of a problem when you have more than one child and you want them to go to sleep at the same time Smile

Wholeheartedly recommend later bedtimes. They've always worked for us and dyed-in-the-wool night owl DD.

If it ain't broke don't fix it as saying goes.

If this is the first my baby can and does this from friends? Because you lucky you got to 7months. I had it starting in first few weeks. The race is on round about 9-10months who's baby walking and running marathons

I think what you're doing sounds great. Ignore your parents.

If your baby sleeps through and is happy DON'T CHANGE ANYTHING!

Just ignore friends. Or don't tell them. They could be jealous. Wink

If your friends babies are even sleeping through they're likely up at the crack of dawn. He's doing a grand stretch of sleep so unless you have concrete reasons foe wanting him down earlier (and most likely up earlier) I don't see why you'd change things.

I was worried about this recently with my 7 month but I am in the same situation in that my husband only comes home after 7pm. She went to bed at 7.30 3 nights in a row, and woke up each of those nights from 2-4am. WIDE awake! I then let her nap later again and sleep when she wanted in the evening and she wakes once, sometimes twice for a very quick feed and goes back to sleep. Late bedtimes DEFINITELY work for us.

I found this interesting too - www.google.co.uk/amp/s/childsleepscience.wordpress.com/2014/09/09/the-split-night-why-some-babies-are-awake-for-hours-in-the-middle-of-the-night-and-how-to-change-it/amp/

In other European countries they keep babies with them at nighttime and they just nap more in the day - I love this way of thinking as we get a good night sleep Halo

If its working for you why change it?! I couldn't do it personally because I want to go to bed myself by 9 but wouldn't think it's odd that yours does.

I haven't slept til 8.30 for 2 years

I don't think there is a rule as to what time babies go to sleep at as long as they are happy and refreshed when they wake up. My DD goes to bed at 9 .30 pm, and she seems happy enough! Although your DS sleeping through sounds like a dream, mine wakes at least 4 times at night and up for the day at 6.30 Shock

Babies in the uk go to bed unusually early. DC1 is 2 and still goes to sleep at 9.30ish each night, waking at 7.30am. Still has a 2h nap after lunch. He is in nursery full time and if he went to bed at 7 each night we would never see him (awake) during the week! If it works for you don't change it Wink

Second what crazycatlady said... I live in Greece - DS is 4 months and stays up with us in the evening, goes down shockingly late at about 10.30 (sometimes 11) and we don't hear from him until 8.30am.
I appreciate maybe it's different at home in the UK but works for us so I say continue what you're doing!
