5 month old rolling in sleep!

Dd has recently started rolling from back to tummy but hasnt yet rolled from tummy to back (when shes on her tummy she gets too annoyed too quickly!)

Last night when she was half awake half asleep she tried to roll on to her side. I tried to get her back to sleep on her back but she wasn't having any of it and only wanted to sleep on her side. I eventually gave up and let her sleep on her side but was really worried and kept checking on her!

I think I'm obviously so worried because of how much health visitors say about babies only sleeping on their backs but obviously babies sometimes want to sleep in a different positon!

As my dd is still trying to figure out how to roll from tummy to back does anyone have any ideas how i can possibly stop her from rolling on to her tummy when she's asleep? I know it might be a ridiculous question but I know I'm going to worry so much now when she's asleep!

Once they can roll they will be fine on their tummies to sleep. I know it seems scary but before you know if they will be rolling all over the place and crawling in their sleep too! It's a normal stage of development, nothing you can do to stop it.

I know i won't be able to stop it but i just dont want her to roll on her tummy and get stuck

Official SIDS advice on this is:

â—‹ If your baby has rolled onto their tummy, you should turn them onto their back again

â—‹ Once your baby can roll from back to front and back again, on their own, they can be left to find their own position

It won't be long until baby learns to roll both ways. Only a matter of a few short weeks ususlly.

I'm in a similiar position as you OP. DS has just started to roll over from his back to front, but he can't roll back over and gets frustrated and panicked that he can't roll back. He's not doing it in his sleep yet, just during floor time. He's only 3 months old and I assumed they learnt rolling from front onto back first Confused.

At night she will probably roll and get stuck and cry and you will have to roll her back over about 4 million times (maybe not quite!) And then it will pass and she will learn to roll on her own. It is a short phase, it won't last for long OP!

Yes, please be encouraged that all will be fine. My daughter would only ever sleep on her side. We never had an issue and she learnt to roll herself back over in no time at all. She will soon find her comfy position and hopefully sleep a bit longer!

As soon as DD learned to roll she started doing it in her crib and I spend the night rolling her back over and she couldn't roll from her tummy to back and I was so worried about her sleeping on her front.

I rolled up some bath towels and put them on top of the crib mattress but under the sheet. She hasn't rolled in her sleep sinceGrin

I use a sleepyhead so baby doesn't roll but as previous poster mentions towels under the sheet - this has the same effect.
