...and she said turn the radio up so I don't hear her cry...

My two didn't really get into a regular naps during the day routine until they were 3-4 months iirc.

When they were tiny I took them out in the pram, rain or shine, to sleep when I thought they needed to, or in the sling.

Gradually, gradually, I found I could bf them both to sleep for a morning nap of about 30 mins a couple of hours after they'd woken up. And then a longer nap of maybe an hour or two at about 12 noon. And perhaps another 20 mins at about 4 or 5 in the afternoon.

Having never believed I would achieve it, I did get to the stage with both of them where they would nap in their cots, upstairs, twice a day. Without having to leave them to cry.

I think you need to get them into the habit of sleeping at vaguely set times (however you achieve it) and sooner or later they will come to want sleep then and accept it without fighting against it.

HTH.

But

My ds never got into a 'proper' routine of naps. As CremeEgg said, if I b/f him to sleep and during, expect around 2 hours. If cuddling, about 50mins/hour. If transported to cot/moses basket expect 20mins. If in pram - sky's the limit!

Like the idea of crack in the pavement thing, but have never been one to push backwards and forwards. Might as well walk somewhere if you're going to put that amount of effort in!

at nursery they shoggle the pushchair from side to side. dd now copies it with her dolls and pushchair. so cute to watch.

Ds used to sleep in his pram too. But just a word of warning - if you've got one of those car seat travel system combo things, it might not be a good idea. Sleeping in car seat for more than, IIRC, 20 minutes or so not good for their backs or their breathing as their head/neck/chest are kind of squashed.

Vmama, was just about to reply to your other thread to say I am in v similar boat with DS (6 weeks old today). Have given up trying to get him into crib for naps 'cause the couple of times I tried, I went from having a nice sleepy baby on me, to an overtired, screaming baby in the crib. Didn't seem like an improvement!

So now I reckon as long as he is getting a couple of naps in, doesn't really matter where. Right now he has been asleep in his pram for 2 hours after a quick walk to the shops earlier. He has also been known to spontaneously fall asleep in his bouncer chair, though only lasts 20 mins or so. And yesterday he had an early evening nap in my arms after a feed, though I think he's already getting too big for this as he finds it harder to get comfy than he used to.

Anyway hopefully we're doing something right, as last night he slept from 9pm to 2.30am which according to NCSS counts as sleeping through!

Ds1 is 18 weeks and still not a good napper, or a good sleeper come to think of it

But with weather like this it's easier as we do a visit to the park or dog walking twice a day so thats his naps sorted
