Sleeping advice when travelling away for a few days

We are due to go away for a few days and I'm trying to get my head around the logistics of cribs/cots for my dd who will be 13 weeks old.

At home she has a snuzpod at night and during the day either sleeps in the Moses basket (sometimes) or on me (lots and lots Grin)

We have a travel cot but it just looks so huge for her. Are travel cots ok for such a small baby? It would be for 4 nights. I'm thinking of trialling her in it for a few day time naps and then maybe an overnight stint before we go but would this help it just confuse her more? Currently she sleeps fine at night and day time is variable.

Do you have a pram insert for your pushchair? That would be the easiest.

I wouldn't attempt to get such a young baby asleep in a travel cot.

Hi FATE, thanks for response. We don't have a pram insert - I'll look into getting one, thanks for the tip. The travel cot isn't going to work for us at this stage. I've put it up and every time I walk past it I think no way can I put her in there! It's going back in it's box until she is older....

You can get some travel cots with bassinet type hammocks for when baby is very little.

If your travel cot is unused, maybe you could exchange for one like this? Or beg and borrow one?

Likewise a pram actually. If you have some mum-friends, I bet you a few have a flat-bed pram. You could see if anyone would swap pushchair with you for a week or so, to borrow their pram for the holiday.

Thanks FATE. I've looked at pram inserts and I'm a bit confused... I have a flat pram base but had thought that it was not suitable for use for napping or overnight sleeping (except for naps when I'm out and about). Is the insert something that raises above the base? I can only find liners on line, is this the same thing as an insert?

Another option I've seen is a pop up travel cot. Do you know if these are any good?

Sorry for all the questions! If I knew who you were I'd offer to have this conversation over coffee and cake!

I travelled a lot when ds was a teeny baby and I bought the koo di pop up baby bassinet. You can put it in a travel cot, on your bed - anywhere really.

If your budget allows I highly recommend.

Thanks Stealth, I'd looked at those but could only see ones which were suitable for up to age 3 months, but just seen one that's suitable for up to 6 months so that has made my dayGrin

It's a top contender. Thanks again

It is in mine. I suppose you could call it an insert too. It came with my Graco travel system - but mine is really old, I've had it for 13 years now.

You're right that for overnight sleeping baby should not have straps and whatnot.

The koo di pop up stealthbanana mentioned sounds good, if budget allows. Things like that often maintain their value in the second hand market, so you could always sell on afterwards.

We went away back in July and actually took the snuzpod bassinet, with sleepyhead inside. Car was VERY cramped! Worth it though, as DD started sleeping through the night whilst we were there!

Yes I used it incessantly. Everywhere. In the bedroom, in the garden, in airports, at friend's houses etc. Really was an absolute winner for me! Am just sad DS is now too long for it - I might investigate this bigger one you've mentioned....

Ah just seen you said 3 months not 3 - doh!
