Ds, 18m, went down for a nap at 11am - still sleeping! Do I leave him?

He isn't ill, slept well last night and was chirpy this morning. Half of me thinks if he's sleeping he needs it - the other half wondered if he'll sleep tonight...

Too long. Wake him, or he won't sleep tonight, that's what I'd do anyway.

babybore · 30/03/2007 14:42

Leave him! DD once had a 4hour nap when sick and still went to bed at 7.

My 18mth old dd has a cold, she went down at 11.30 (she could have done with going down earlier but she was having lunch) she's just got up.

Lucycat · 30/03/2007 14:44

give it 5 more minutes, have a cuppa and a custard cream, then go and get him up - you'll regret it when trying to watch American idol tonight and he won't go to sleep!

these threads make me smile
it is terribole isn't it?
you just do't knwo what to do!
i usually decide depending on how my evening is gong to be.If it is going to be a chilled out eve and you don't mind a bit of extra toddler company for a while, then leave him. More often than not my ds1 and ds2 would still go to bed at 7pm even with long naps when nthey were 18mopnths.

So, answer is i dunno, but i feel your pain

will dh/dp be around later to playh with toddler and have a bit of a nice eve if he does stay up a bit later- see , it mayh be a benefit

A good spectrum of opinion - thanks all! Am going to take Lucycat's advice re. the cuppa - good plan (always forget to make tea if it's only me drinking it)

Mrsjohnsim - i know, it's really very silly, esp when you consider what actual decisions there are to be made - but great to have you lot to ask!

i would leave him and try and enjoy the break. my ds2 always sleeps when hes a bit off colour, he would often fall asleep at 12 noon, wake up at 5.30 then go back to bed at 7pm to sleep all the night. its just their bodies way- they only sleep if they need it. perhaps he's brewing some illness and this is going to help him get through whats to come iyswim.

babybore · 30/03/2007 17:00

Mamatres, it makes me smile to think of your baby having a 5 1/2 hour nap and then still sleeping through the night! Bless him.

we actually thought there was something wrong with him at the time. he did this for about 4 weeks in all, falling asleep sat at the dinner table and everything. then his hair started falling out. took him to GP who muttered something about leukaemia and scared the life out of me, but after loads of blood tests he was proclimed he had a 'virus'.[ hmm]. he was about 2.6 when this first started.

but yes, sweet now when we look back at it but terrifying at the time!
