14 Week Old Daytime Nap Help

My 14 week old goes down awake at 9pm in his crib at night no problem and doesn't moan or cry at all he takes himself off to sleep within 10 minutes. He then sleeps through until 5.30am stirring a few times through the night but not opening his eyes or crying just taking himself off back to sleep into the next sleep cycle. He then has s bottle at 5.30am and goes back down happily in his crib from 6.00am - 9.00am.

Now Daytime Naps are a different story 😩
I'm trying to put him down in his crib for his naps but really struggling. If I put him down awake like I do at night he will start crying.
So I've been cuddling him and rocking him until his eyes start going then putting him down in his crib. He will initially open his eyes and raise his arms up but then will go to sleep but only for 20 minutes if we're lucky 45 minutes but then he stirs and wakes up fully and then just starts crying.
I try and put his dummy in but he spits it out and then thismorning I tried leaving him to see if he would go back to sleep and he just cried so much he got himself into a hot sweaty mess 😟
I don't understand how he can get himself into through to the next sleep cycle during the night but can't in the day?!
Now by trying to persevere today I've got an over tired baby who won't nap now 😭
If I put him in his car seat he would drop off and stay asleep for 2 hours or more because if I see him stir I will wiggle and rock the car seat on the sofa.
I don't know what to do I really want to try and crack this but it's easier to just put him in the car seat and then I know he will have a decent nap and be happy when he wakes.
Any ideas or help much appreciated :)

Short naps in the range of 30-45 minutes are completely normal. Don't worry about it, the pressure to sleep is less in the daytime so you always have to work harder for it. Movement helps, bouncy chair is great for extending naps. But there's also nothing wrong with maintaining crib* naps if you prefer.

The way to avoid baby being over-tired is to make naps more frequent. Try to limit awake time yo around an hour, 90m at most. It should help.

  • crib daytime naps are fine but SIDS recommendations is that an adult is in the room with sleeping baby at all times. Room sharing includes daytime sleep as well as night sleep.
