white noise???

Hi everyone

Finally managed to get DD to take a nap and has been down for 2hrs and counting - Yeh!!!

This is an absolute miracle because at 11 weeks I think you could count on one hand the number of times shes slept beyond 45 mins, which is classed as a good day. It's normally rocking and shhhing for over an hour then asleep for 10 mins and back to square one.

I don't usually use a white noise app purely because I forget but today at the end of my tether I switched it on and left the room and have as I've said had over 2 hrs sleep for this nap!

Rather tired and just wanting to chill I've started surfing white and come across pieces that say the prolonged use of white noise can be damaging and delay development and create a dependency.

Is this something I should be concerned about or am I just worrying about nothing (beliveve me it doesn't take much)?

I use white noise in DS2s room at nap time to drown out the sound of DS1!

Research I did suggests that if you're using it through the night, every night and at naptimes, and at louder than conversational talking level, then long term use could be damaging.

I don't know what long term use is though...weeks, month, years? I'd say restrict it to naptimes and keep an eye on the level you're playing it at.

I'd never heard of this! We used it for my DD through the night, all naps etc. She's 2 and knows the names of all letter, their phonic sounds, numbers up to 20, shapes, colours etc so my antidotal evidence would be it's had no effect on her 🤷🏻‍♀️

No issues with using it for naps at a calm level.
I think the issue comes with having it blaring next to a baby's ear all night long for months and months. But that's just common sense!

I still use if for my 3 year old, but wasn't aware that it could be damaging. We don't have it blasting and he seems fairly typical for his age so I'm not overly concerned.

I use it all night and for naps, mid volume during the day to help block out background noise, at night it's on low as we live in the countryside so its quiet.

I use it all night and for naps! Can deffo have a conversation over it though and it's not near babies ear. I imagine it causes slight dependency but I'm not worried about that, lots of people, adults and children, have sleep props. Also I used to go to sleep with story tapes and that stopped!
