Alternative to bednest

My second baby is due in January and just looking at options for sleeping. My little girl was in a bednest which I never really liked so don't want to put this one in one. When I've done some research the Sleepyhead appears to be the new thing. Just looking for recommendations or ideas.

Thank you Smile

We have a sleepyhead. It is one of the best Baby things I have ever bought. Before the sleepyhead, my LO thrashed about in the Next2me constantly, waking himself up. Since using it, he is much more settled. I've taken it on holiday and he didn't notice he was in a travel cot because he was still in the sleepyhead. I also often put it in the bed for safer co-sleeping.

I'm thinking of getting the next size up when he moves into his cotbed in a few months. (Provided DH doesn't find out it costs a whopping £180!)

Interesting!! I'm thinking a Sleepyhead is going to be the way forward. Can you just pop the Sleepyhead in the cot when they're newborn?!

I loved my sleepyhead. Used it for all naps (just put on wherever we were, on the floor/sofa/table) and night time it went in the snuzpod. To be honest, if I'd had the space I'd have not bothered with the snuzpod and just put the cot up against the bed with a side off and the sleepyhead in that.

We went away a lot for weekends/holiday in the first few months and the sleepyhead negated the need for carting a travel cot around (obviously only safe until they start to roll etc)

Do you want a bedside crib / co-sleeper type thing? Or do you have space for a full size cot in your room?

The Sleepyhead is great but you still need a crib or cot to put it in.

I have a Snuzpod but if I was buying again I'd get a Tutti Bambini Cozee bedside crib. They're new and slightly bigger than a Snuzpod. Also can be folded up and used as a travel cot which I think is a great feature.

We have a Sleepyhead and it's good but it was expensive and I wish we had tried swaddling first (doh!) as it might have done the job of settling DS in his Snuzpod without the expense!

I'm about to try ditching the Sleepyhead as he's too big for it really (5mo and 98th percentile). So it was quite a lot of money for a short time.

I'm trying to get away from the bedside crib. I really didn't like the bednest. We can fit the cot in our bedroom so thinking Sleepyhead in the cot may be the way forward...

Yep, plus it's portable so you can move it around anywhere in the house which is useful when they're really tiny, and take it with you if baby has to sleep elsewhere.
It's very easy to wash-I read some reviews that said the cover was hard to get on and off but I have found it quite easy. You can put the whole thing in the washing machine which is great.
They're pretty expensive second hand too, so you'd be likely to get most of your money back if Baby hated it.

NameChange30 · 09/08/2017 21:13

Ah if you can fit the cot in your bedroom that's perfect, you don't need a Snuzpod or Cozee or whatever.

We don't have space for a cot in our bedroom unfortunately, so when DS outgrows the Snuzpod he'll have to go into the cot bed in his room

We had the bigger sleepyhead and my daughter (almost 2) still loves it. When mine were newborn we used a cocoonababy which was a big success!

GinIsIn · 09/08/2017 21:22

Love the sleepyhead. We've now bought the bigger one too.

Carty76 · 09/08/2017 21:23

I've never heard of the cocoonababy! It looks fab. Deffo food for thought..

I used the cocoonababy for the first few months while in Moses basket, then sleepyhead when moved into the cot. Ideal for naps as can be easily moved into cot etc. Can you tell I had a bad sleeper???? X

CoxsOrangePippin · 09/08/2017 21:26

We have the babymoov cosydream (plus swaddling) - it has helped a lot and is much cheaper

NameChange30 · 09/08/2017 21:27

I wasn't so impressed by the Cocoonababy, doesn't last as long as the Sleepyhead and it's a similar price.

Carty76 · 09/08/2017 21:35

Just had a nose at the babymoov cosydream. Looks good! Is the base comfy? The names of some of these things crack me up Grin

Check out the purflo breathable nest, almost identical to sleepyhead at fraction of the price (biggest difference is that you can't unclip the bottom of it)

CoxsOrangePippin · 10/08/2017 09:22

Yes it seems very comfy, I would just not put it on a lumpy or cold surface as it is a thin base, not a mattress.

Crabbo · 10/08/2017 09:35

The only problem with the sleepyhead in a normal cot (assuming not drop side which freak me out a bit...) is it's a bit of a hassle leaning over it everytime you get them in and out 20 times a night. Plus you can't just reach out and touch them like you can with a co-sleeper crib, so I ended up just using the sleepyhead straight in our bed last time with an empty cot next to us as a barrier. That worked fine but I'm going to try the tutti bambini this time I think as my 2yr old is still in the bed with us so we need the extra space and to keep the baby separate from the toddler.

Crabbo · 10/08/2017 09:44

Also the sleepyhead is great for the start but don't count on it lasting the advertised 8 months - my dd was 5lb3 at the start, eventually climbed to about 25th percentile but she was still out if at around 6 months!
