2 year old dropping nap

Hi

Is it early for a 25 month old to be dropping their nap? I could not get her to sleep yesterday, cot or car ride. Her mood seemed fine and she was bathed and in bed by 7 and up this morning at 7.15. Isn't she too young to be dropping naps? Am thinking that 12 hours overnight and no nap is not enough sleep overall in 24 hours? Confused

Neither of mine had a nap after 18 months..not for the want of trying!! But if sleeping all night and not grumpy i think they have slept enough at night.

DD1 dropped hers at 20 months and DD2 has just dropped hers at 25 months. Both were/are fine with 12 hours overnight and no nap.

I think the average amount of sleep needed at this age is 11-13 hours so 12 is absolutely fine.

Oh ok! Thank you for both replying. Perhaps some days she will and some she won't! I just thought she should be napping nearer to three years old but I know they don't come with a manual! Let's see what today brings!

Yeah, that's what I thought pre having my 2 too! DD2 still occasionally dozes off in the car/on the sofa for 20 mins, but DD1 just stopped one day and never slept in the day again!

Fair enough then! Perhaps I need to just get used to it!

When mine were dropping their naps I had a period of time with enforced "quiet time".

So for the time when they used to nap, I would always plan to be at home. Would set baby up lying on the sofa with cushions and perhaps a blanket. Then put a film or kids tv on for an hour.

The idea being that if quiet, relaxed and lying down, if their body needs sleep then can nap on the sofa. But no pressure to sleep like when in the cot.

Whats a nap? DD stopped at 14 months Hmm

Crikey liquid! That was early! Thank you fate, sounds like a nice idea, quiet time and a bit of a film! May try that today if she won't nap!CakeBrew

My DD1 went through a phase of trying to drop her nap at about 25 months. I continued to put her down In her cot through this phase and after two weeks she started napping again until she was 3.3. And now I do the quiet time on the sofa. So maybe your DC may return to the napping fold.

Cowbella · 09/08/2017 08:55

Thanks Mothervulva, I will continue to try and see what happens. Perhaps it's just another 'phase'! Grin

I'm glad I continued, couldn't face there not being a nap!

It's awful when they stop their last nap. My DD stopped around that age despite my best efforts to dissuade her! She would miss a couple of days, then have a nap being as grumpy as hell by this stage.

Then what I really tried to do was have that time as a designated 'quiet time' when I would lie down with her in the bedroom with curtains drawn. The aim was to get her to have a nap through sheer boredom. I think I may have ended up giving her a kitchen timer which would buzz when the 'quiet' time had elapsed.

The one small consolation is that night- time sleeping dramatically improved as a result of dropping the daytime nap.

I wasn't that bothered about losing the nap, it made day trips easier! Neither of mine have used a pushchair since 18 months so we either had to be at home or in the car for a nap which was a pain.

I know what you mean Ecureuil, I left the farm early yesterday to cater for her nap..would have been lovely to stay and play all day! Today...no nap either Shock. She is still going strong, we are at home due to the shocking weather after a trip to hobbycraft to collect some crafty bits to do to keep us both entertained! Micky Mouse may also be on in the background...a sleep now would not be good!
