My LB of 10mths won't settle at night

My LB is just over 10mths old, extremely active and determined. Was exclusively breast fed up until 8.5 months, he now has around 7ounces at his bedtime feed and breastfeed him in the morning and sometimes during the night (which I know I shouldn't be doing, but sometimes it's the only thing that will get him back to sleep). He has never been a brilliant sleeper and has only really just started sleeping through but it's very few and far between and I never know what I'm going to get every night. His routine in the day is a morning nap of 45 mins and a lunchtime sleep between 1.5-2hrs. (He generally doesn't fight these sleeps like he does at night) Dinner is at 5 and I start bath time around 6/6.15 and then bottle and bed by 6.45pm. As soon as I leave the room he starts screaming, I know he is tired as all the cues are there. I've tried going in and comforting him or picking him up but this actually makes it worse, he just wants to go down on the floor and play! When my husband try's to comfort him he cries but then will stop when he hands him to me. In the end we give up and bring him downstairs and put him in his chair (which he tries to get out of!) or his Jumperoo which we will leave him in until he tires himself out. I know we are doing things wrong here but I don't know what else to try??? Please help....

How about you stay in the room until he's asleep?

If he wants you close, put your hand on his chest/back stationary and just wait until he's asleep. Then sneak out ninja style. If he just wants you there, not comforting him, just get yourself a chair and sit on your phone or something waiting until he's asleep.
