Sleepyhead

Little man is 2 weeks old and I've been toying with the idea of forking out for the sleepyhead. I have read lots of reviews on Amazon and John Lewis; but I thought I'd see what you lovely lot on here thought. Thanks in advance x

Dd1 - awful sleeper. Dd2 sleeps in her moses basket on a Babymoov Cosy dream. And its probably just luck of the draw but she sleeps fantastically and has done since a few days old. It has an adjustable support for her legs so they stay raised and a shaped head bit. She just looks comfortable lying on it. And was less than £40!

Ah man. Here I am back to square one and confused about what to do

There are loads of things HV cannot actively recommend but people still do. It is about knowing and understanding the risks then deciding how you best want to manage those risks.

Some people are risk averse and would not go against any recommendations. Other people take informed risks, knowing that what they are doing is against the SIDS recommendations but deciding that, on balance, the benefits outweigh the risks.

So that begins with not being ignorant of the risks and recommendations, so any decision you do make is done in an informed way

Whilst it's all very well other people saying "I did this and it was perfectly fine", they are not you. You need to decide on your own attitude towards risk and make the decision accordingly. If the worse does happen, you need to know you have the decision proper thought.

In relation to sids risk I was content that the design of it was safe. The shape and firmness of pillow allows for breathing room. I'm on the toddler version now and that is actually much softer. The baby version was solid. Maybe take a look at it when it arrives and make your decision.

We bought one for DS now 9 weeks. He sleeps in it in his Moses basket or in the bed with us. It's nice if you want baby in the bed with you but are worried about smothering. The baby sleeps like a baby in it... In other words, I don't think it is some miracle pillow that gets him to sleep any longer. He sleeps during the day in the sleepyhead, on me or in the carrycot.

Don't fork out for a sleepyhead just roll up a bath towel and stick it in a pillowcase. This is what the nurses did in PICU when my DD got a systemic infection at 2 weeks old.

Loved ours. He's almost 10 months and we've just unzipped the U shaped pillow and he has that in his cot now instead as he just likes to feel contained by something.
The mattress is flat, the u shaped pillow is 100% breathable and if they turn/push their heads into it it's perfectly safe.
It's the only baby positioned that's safe for overnight sleeping.
