At what age did you LO go down to just one daytime sleep?

DD (8mths) goes down for 9am (ish) sleep no probs (wakes 7ish), but for last 3 days has really fought the midday one (normally goes down about 12.30). She dropped the late afternoon sleep about 1 month ago. She doesn't appear to be teething or unwell otherwise.
Am wondering whether to skip the morning one and just go for long lunchtime nap, but fear she may become a monster (in the nicest possible way, of course) through overtiredness come late morning.
I realise they're all different, but anyone else had such a young 'un be o.k with one sleep??

Anywhere between 9-12mths, depends on the child...If very young you may find they sleep in the pushchair for 20mins instead.

mamalocco · 28/03/2007 13:48

How long does she sleep for at 9am? My dcs dropped theirs between 12 and 18 months - went into mourning each time.

serenity · 28/03/2007 13:55

Mine were about that age when they dropped one, and stopped napping completely at 18 months......... I was always very envious of people whose children were having naps at the age of 2 or 3.

LilyLoo · 28/03/2007 13:56

about 12 months

caspercat · 28/03/2007 13:57

Her morning sleep is about 45mins - 1 hr. Thanks for replies so far x

About 18 months. Ds is now 20 months and has one two-hour sleep during the day (though he finds the last hour before bed hard work as he is knackered!). He can manage on less sleep though if he is really busy (eg if we are out all day), as long as he gets his daytime nap the following day. Sleeps 12 hours at night too.

For about two months though he would have two sleeps one day then one sleep the next - it was a gradual transition.

Mumpbump · 28/03/2007 14:01

About 11/12 months. Ds will have a morning sleep at home at the weekends, but only have 1 hour at lunch-time at nursery...

ceolas · 28/03/2007 14:02

definitely before 1 year. Probably 9 or 10 months.

babybore · 28/03/2007 14:03

my dd is also 8 months and naps very happily between 9.30 and 11 and 1.15 to 3. Maybe you could try putting your dd down a little later for her lunchtime nap? My friend's ds is 10 months and is still having 2 naps a day.

Miaou · 28/03/2007 14:15

I never realised my kids were so out of step with others!! No way could ds do without a daytime nap yet.

babybore · 28/03/2007 14:16

Miaou - I really can't see my daughter dropping her 2 naps before a year at least. She is exhausted when she goes down for either of them. majorly active when awake though...

ScottishThistle · 28/03/2007 14:20

Miaou, they're only talking about morning napping not all daytime naps!

PrettyCandles · 28/03/2007 14:21

Both of my bigger two dropped their am nap between 12-15m. It was quite a tricky time, because they couldn't quite get trhough to the afternoon nap without the am nap, yet werent' quite tired enough for the am nap. Took them about 3m to learn to cope with only one nap.

You could try pushing the am nap to, say, 10am and the pm nap to about 2pm for a while, and see how she does. Or you could try skipping the am nap every other day. Both strategies helpeed my LOs when they were dropping the am nap.

A good nap habit is so worthwhile, that I think it's worthwhile persevering with naps, rather than accepting immediately that the LO has outgrown the nap. Both ds1 and dd have at various times rebelled against their naps, but I persevered with getting them to nap and it was worthwhile in the end as they clearly did still need the naps, just in a modified form or time.

Miaou · 28/03/2007 14:21

oh right, sorry, pg brain here!!

ScottishThistle · 28/03/2007 14:24

I'd drop the morning nap & go with the afternoon sleep, see how it goes though you may have to bring it forward a bit.

ceolas · 28/03/2007 14:30

Miaou - how did the other interview go?

Miaou · 28/03/2007 16:25

sorry ceolas - just seen your post - I got the job

ceolas · 28/03/2007 16:35

Oh hurray! Congratulations!

Is that the nursery one? Did you tell them you were pregnant?

Miaou · 28/03/2007 16:41

Yes, and yes! They were very pleased that I brought it up at interview and thanked me for being so open about it. And it doesn't appear to be causing a problem - phew

Oh really pleased for you. Sounds perfect.

Sorry for the hijack, btw caspercat

Lazycow · 28/03/2007 16:57

ds was 20 months when he dropped his morning nap at the childminder. With me he dropped it at about 16 months old.

Lazycow · 28/03/2007 16:59

Miau - my ds need (2.4) his sleep too. If he misses his lunchtime nap he is OK for one day but if he misses two days in a row we have serious major meltdowns and three days means he starts waking early and being really difficult at bedtime.

Miaou · 28/03/2007 18:07

Ah, not just my ds then!!

Colditz, you can put your t-shirt back on now, otherwise you'll have to change your name to Coldtitz
