Night weaning a 'fed to sleep' toddler with a view to giving up breastfeeding

My 2 year old has always been breastfed to sleep and I want to gradually stop breastfeeding and help him find another way to sleep. I stopped breastfeeding in the day about 6 months ago by using distraction. He doesn't have a nap in the day any more. He sleeps in his own full size bed where I join him to feed him to sleep 2-4 times a night. I just thought I'd share my story. Feel free to share yours on here and any questions. More details coming up about how it's going

Thank you Punnet. I'm conscious this thread might seem a bit self absorbed or self congratulatory but I did a lot of searching and reading on MN for positive stories when I was thinking of giving up breastfeeding and didn't find much of what I was looking for, at least not in much detail. Last night was quite wakeful; he probably stirred about 4 times but resettled quickly with a cuddle each time. Tonight was lovely. He simply lay down with me, closed his eyes tight shut at my request and was asleep within 5 minutes. It has been just over two weeks since we started night weaning and just under one since I gave up bf altogether.

Back to work today so this seems a suitable place to end my story. Ds settled in 3 minutes flat last night (7:30pm) having offered no objection and willingly lain down and closed his eyes. He slept through the night and is still sleeping now.

Lovely night for you, have a great day at work. It sounds like you've come at this night weaning at a good time for you all.
