Infant's stuffy nose at night - is it normal?

Hi all.
My baby is 12 weeks old and has always had a stuffy nose at night. My mum thinks I need to see a doctor about it but I'd always presumed that some babies just have a stuffy nose because of having smaller nasal passages. But perhaps I'm wrong? I know some people buy vaporisers for their babies. Is it worth it? At the moment I'm using a saline nose spray but it's disturbing both of our sleep at the moment as last night I had to use the spray twice.
Incidentally it is sometimes stuffy in the day time too, but not as much.
Thanks.

Babies physically have a small nasal passage, so often do make quite nasal sounds. It also means that if they get a cold, even a tiny amount of snot gives them a blocked nose.

There is nothing inherently wrong with baby making nasal noises, assuming he is well. It will just be general baby noises. No need to medicate him unless you feel he is struggling in some way.

There's something FTM about being disturbed by these snuffly noises. By the time you've had two, three, four... children you just sleep through it.

A dummy may help quieten him down.

If you notice other symptoms, if he is sick more than normal, foamy poo, chest pulling inwards quite deeply, temperature, skin colour change - go to the doctors straight away.

If the only symptom is noisy baby at night, that's just baby being a baby I'm afraid.try a dummy.

Thank you. Yes, she does have a dummy which seems to help. Glad to hear it is normal. She's my second baby and my first didn't do it strangely!

All three of mine would snuffle in their sleep it isn't anything to worry about unless other symptoms like PP has mentioned .

My friend had the same problem with her baby and ordered revitanight. It's a humidifier that sticks on to radiator. This really helped she said. I have just ordered a few from amazon as my stepson that stays with us a few nights a week has always been quite congested so I'm hoping it will help him too!

Both my DD and DS were like this until about 16 weeks old, when it just stopped of its own accord. Doctor said that some babies are just born with nasal passages that are a bit too small and you just have to wait until they grow a bit! We didn't find the saline spray or anything else to be any help whatsoever, it was just a matter of time. I suggest ear plugs in the meantime! As per previous postings though if you aren't sure its worth asking your GP, they won't mind.

Definitely keep an eye (or ear!) on it. My second has been so snuffly and noisy at night from birth and my gut told me there was more to it than newborn snuffles. Turns out he has enlarged adenoids and tonsils which will need an operation at some point. It doesn't really seem to bother him (now aged 10 months), but we have nicknamed him the snot monster, poor thing! As others have said yours could very well just grow out of it.
