3 weeks - how to settle in co-sleeper cot?

My 3wk old sleeps soundly and for up to four hours in the bed with me and DH, but only lasts 2hrs in the co sleeping cot on the other side of the bed. He's also a lot harder to settle in the cot.

I'd prefer baby to sleep in the cot so I'm not panicking about squishing him in the night! Any tips on getting him to settle and sleep in cot? Suspect he's sleeping longer in the bed because he's warm and cosy.

Or is everything still completely random at this stage as he's so little?!

Swaddle baby and give a dummy. It will help no end.

Similar story with our 5 week old except he's a noisy noisy sleeper so I don't sleep if he's in the bedside crib as EVERY grunt disturbs me in my PFB new mum state

With only having a standard double, DH is going into spare room sometimes for part of the night so DS can snuggle with me, following guidelines. Far better than falling asleep on me sat up after a feed (he sleeps quietly then but NOT safe)

At this age, I'll do anything for any sleep, having gone a bit loopy this week through sleep deprivation. They're still very very new and the world is big, weird and cold in relation to where they were. Suggest googling 4th trimester and just doing what you can to be safe and have some sleep.

Thanks Smile

Have been guilty of dozing off during the middle of the night feeds. Definitely agree that the next few weeks are about survival more than anything!

Following, my 13 week old still won't settle in her crib. I occasionally (like once or twice a week) manage to get her to sleep in the crib for 1-1.5 hours overnight, but not consistently Sad. Annoying thing is she slept 2-4 hours at a time in a bloody travel cot on holiday! I'm tearing my hair out cause I'm getting really bad hip and back ache from.the position i sleep in when we bed share.

Sorry I've got no advice!

Sleepyhead and Ewan the dream sheep!

sacgonflable · 30/07/2017 17:07

we have a cocoonababy And a Ewan the dream sheep, works quite well. we also started warming the cot with a hot water bottle - use of these is against safe sleep guidelines but obviously not keeping it in with him so i don't see the problem.

laughing at brighton who has just given me advice about my gassy baby on another thread...my son is SO BLOODY NOISY at night it makes me laugh even at 4 in the morning.

Not sure why you're laughing at me?? sacgon

sacgonflable · 30/07/2017 19:57

yikes sorry - not clear at all - just thinking ah, we have the same baby. it made sense at the time but I blame the sleep deprivation.

arbrighton · 30/07/2017 20:24

yep, and that's probably why I missed it @sacgonflable

I'd had a lovely night on friday as DH took DS but little darling woke at 3, fed, decided to be awake and burble, then spit up copiously then have violent hiccups.

I handed him over about half 5, only for blocked duct to mean I couldn't get comfortable for any more sleep. I'm going now, leaving DH with his nibs and a bottle of expressed milk for a couple of hours.
