To nap in cot or pram?

Hello ladies. What does everyone do with their little cherubs Grin
My 7month old DD actually naps quite well in cot. 3 naps per day always an hour each sometimes midday nap will be 1.5hours. Gr8! However night time is the same. Not so Gr8 Confused
Good bedtime routine and goes to sleep no problems- for an hour! Resettled for another hour, then another hour. By the 3/4th wake (so around 11pm ish) she will not resettle and it's a battle of wills to get through to the morning Sad
My mum is suggesting she does not know the difference between napping and nightmare sleep as she naps in same place, same sleep bag, same white noise, it's pitch black in there so I suppose she might not be able to differentiate between night & day?
Would naps in car & pram help? What do others do?

I think your mum is talking nonsense, sorry. Some babies nap better than they sleep at night, that's all. Though if you are thinking of baby napping in a childcare setting at some point you may want to think about decreasing the props for naps. It's very common for 7 month olds to wake in the night.

Timetogrowup2016 · 13/07/2017 12:07

Yes it common for 7 month old to wake but I do not think it is normal for that to be every single hour every night unless it's the odd night of illness etc .
Hope someone is able to come along with some advice .

How does baby go to sleep ?
How's weaning going ? How is milk intake ?

I'd look at the timing of the last nap and make sure it's not too close too bedtime. Possibly try and consolidate two of the naps into a morning and an afternoon one?

I don't think the daytime sleep location will make a difference to the nighttime sleep
This link might help give you an idea of what to aim for (not that any baby follows these things exactly!!)

I think your mum might have a point as o was always told that it's helpful for babies to have associations and routine for night time sleep. Maybe don't go as far as change the location but you could not put her in the sleeping bag in the day time and leave a bit of light coming in the blinds.

CluelessMummy · 13/07/2017 12:23

I'd echo what Zebras has said about the timing of the last nap. My DD dropped her third nap at around the 7 month mark and an hour at the end of the day might be a bit long to make a baby of that age tired enough to sleep through. What are your spacings for naps? I've heard good things about the 2-3-4 routine for that age (awake for 2 hours, then 3, then 4, then bed). DD is 8mo, has two naps at 9.30 (sleeps until 10-10.30) and 1.30 (sleeps until 3-3.30), then goes to bed at 7-7.30, depending on when that second nap finishes.

As everyone has said Rowntree84, your mum is wrong here. In fact the cot is the best place for naps.

What hapiens to get baby to go from awake to asleep at bedtime and nap time?

What's daytime routine like? It's probably time to start dropping that third nap.

How long has she been doing the regular wakes during the night? I think seven months is about the time when they realise you are a separate person capable of leaving them. My DS starting regularly waking again at seven months after previously sleeping better and I think it was for this reason, just needed to see that I was still there. If this is it it could just pass on its own.

Thankyou everyone for your thoughts.
You were all right. Decided yesterday to just go out for the day but he only napped for 30mins x 3, So he was very twiney! He also had last nap in car waking at 5pm so didn't go to bed til 8. So all in all bit of a disaster and he still woke at 10 going crazy!
Fate I feed him until drowsy and then he settles to sleep in cot with his dummy, mostly trouble free. When he wakes on the night I feed him if I suspect hungry but try to settle with dummy mostly.
The 2,3,4 routine sounds interesting. Is 4 hour wake window not quite a long time though? I'll give this a try today today I think Thankyou
