I really don't want to co-sleep BUT...

... it seems like it's the only way for me to get any sleep!

DD2 is nearly 7mo and can't link her sleep cycles. She naps for precisely 30 min during the day. At night she goes to sleep at 7pm in her Snuzpod but then wakes after 30 min then every 60 min after that. If I put her on our bed when she wakes she rolls onto her tummy and falls fast asleep! I can't leave her there though as she's a complete kamikaze and once awake tries to climb over any barrier I put on the bed to stop her falling off. I've found her twice today trying to climb the goddamn stairs!

I kind of feel that until she's developmentally able to link her sleep cycles there's no point fighting it and I should do whatever it takes for us to get some sleep. Am I right? Or am I starting off on some slippery slope that I'll never escape from? I want my bed back!

I may be totally off the mark here, but is the snuzpod too small?

I would guess she wants to sleep on her front but can't get there cause there's not enough space?

My little boy was similar with rubbish sleep but once we put him into a cot (more room so he could roll onto his tummy) he slept much better.

Like I said, I may be totally wrong but might be worth a try.

I think you may be on the mark bucket! I've been wondering that myself!

The main reason she's still in it is that our 2 year old sleeps in the cot and I'm a bit reluctant to put the toddler in a bed to free up the cot as she sleeps like an angel. But I think we need to reshuffle!

I'm currently MNing in bed so she can't fall on the floor and she's been doing a good job of rolling round our super king size bed whilst still asleep. Perhaps it's her hitting her arms on the side of the Snuzpod that's waking her up?

Maybe try her in a travel cot in your room? She sounds super active for 7 months!

We're off on holiday this weekend and I was planning to try her in a travel cot but was assuming we'd end up co-sleeping!

Yes she's super active, she can't keep still. She's always trying to chase and climb after her sister!

Being unable to still her body even when asleep could well be directly linked to the fact she wakes so easily. It suggests she's not getting into the deeper 'quiet sleep' state.

What happens if you cuddle her and hold her tight as she sleep, so she's cannot move around so easily?

I'd a snuzpod crib sized? If she's not already in a cot, definately change to a full sized cot - for the extra space. You can still remove one side off any normal cot and wedge it up to your bed.

If you are planning to embrace cosleeping then the safest way to do that with a mobile baby is to ditch your bed base and put your mattress directly on the floor.

She tends to wake up very quickly even if held, so her eyes snap open and then she rolls over and crawls off, or arches her back if she's being held. She does sleep longer in the sling. But I don't know if that is because her movement is restricted or because I can react the second she starts to stir. Or both.

The Snuzpod is a small crib, like a Next to Me. Looks like it's time to order a toddler bed and put the baby in a full size cot. I'm thinking that I will put it next to my bed but take some of the bars out so I can settle her that way. I think taking the side off is too dangerous with this one - she wants to climb on and over everything so I think she would be out in seconds.

Last night I sat with her for a couple of hours while she slept in our bed. Usually she's either in the Snuzpod or with me when I go to bed. It was really interesting as she would roll around now and again but go back to sleep, so maybe it is a case of her needing more room. Think I'll try a few naps in the cot while the toddler is at nursery.

I agree fate that co-sleeping means having to put the mattress on the floor or turn the bed sideways in the corner so three sides are closed off. But that really is a step too far for me! I much prefer for my babies to learn to sleep in their own bed but with as much reassurance as they need.
