How the fuck do you make a baby lie down?

She's 10 months and now, as well as rolling and rocking on all fours, has finally figured out how to get to sitting from lying. She will not stay still. She twizzles in circles, rolls about, sits up, bangs her head on the cot bars. I keep lying her down but the constant up-down is not conducive to sleep! I've tried pinning her with firm hands but she has four limbs and I have two hand and it just feels like a wrestling match. Also not conducive to sleep. Short of pinning her babygrow down like a mounted butterfly, I don't really know how to get her to be still long enough to fall asleep!

Mine slept if I fed her curled up or daytime would go for a walk in the buggy or drive in the car. No way could we just lie them down!

Feeding to sleep stopped working a little while ago unfortunately! I need to get her to settle in the cot or she just wakes up when transferred...

I snuggle dc until sleepy and then put in the cot with blanket pinned under so the arms are sort of swaddled. Once asleep I remove the swaddle so it's easy to move upon waking.

Dc doesn't mind the swaddling as I sit next to the cot until they fall asleep.

I remember threatening ds2 with duct tape if he didn't lie still one night.
I appreciate that's no help whatsoever, sorry.

DS's sleep went to shit when he learnt to stand. We ended up basically pinning him down until he got the idea and went to sleep. Took a while but worked eventually. Now he can be put in the cot standing up and will lie down and go to sleep of his own accord.

You wait.

I feed my son his last bottle of the day with him lying down and he then rolls over and goes to sleep. We do give him some chill time in the cot beforehand as he's full of beans from a busy day!

EdwardGorey · 10/07/2017 20:29

I'll keep that in reserve Whitelisbon. Grin

When my ds learned he could sit up in his cot it was a nightmare he would just wake up and sit there crying or shouting and not want to lie down.

When he goes to bed I just lie him down and he will generally babble to himself a bit and then go to sleep. I leave him in there awake.

If he wakes in the night I go in lay him down give his dummy back say night and leave - repeat until he's quiet. Unless something wrong ie nappy needs changing or Ill then I obviously don't just leave him!

I found the novelty of sitting eventually wore off. He hasn't figured out how to stand up yet in his cot because he's in a sleeping bag though im sure it won't be long!

He is 14 months btw.

This is a phase and it does pass. To get you through though, remember your hands are much bigger than hers

So both of her hands could together be help by one of your hands. Likewise the other of your hands with fingers spread will cover the span of the width of both of her legs.
