How to stop DS feeding to sleep?

DS is now 4mo. Up to about 8-10 weeks was in a nice routine of feeding after waking up then going off to sleep with dummy. Then about 12 weeks he started refusing the dummy and was harder to settle for naps so I started to offer an ounce or 2 to help him go to sleep. (Big mistake!)
He now will only take any milk when he's tired and wants to go to sleep.
I struggle to get even 1oz into him when he's wide awake. He can look/ act absolutely starving but if he's not due sleep he just squirms and wriggles and arches his back and won't take it. This can go on for an hour until he's tired enough to sleep and he'll take it.
For example, last night he fed at 2am and slept to 8. Looked hungry but would only take 0.5oz until now and he's taken 4oz and gone to sleep.
I've absolutely no idea how to break this association! If he was happy and only taking milk before nap I wouldn't really care but he looks hungry and he's so grumpy! Any ideas welcome!

Whats his routine generally like? In terms of number of bottles per day, times between bottles, awake time, nap lengths etc?

Everything changes at around 3-4 months. This is quite normal and can come as a shock if not expecting it.

I don't think you have made a mistake, or that feeding to sleep is a problem.

I also don't see a problem with feeding to sleep. The goal is getting baby to sleep, some people use white noise, music, rocking, stroking their face. It's just another tactic
