didn't someone recommend tying the dummy to a knotted muslin so that the babies can find it easier? i thought that was agood idea.

We've tied a bit of knotted muslin to the daummy and I'hm not sure whether itxs easier for him to find but he dosen't seem to find it as easy to chuck it out ethe cot. In an exhausted moment I thought about inventing the magnadummy - put a small magnet in the dummy, put a magnatic bracelet on the child and hey presto when the blasted thing isn't in his mouth its stuck to his wrist ready and waiting. I like having daft ideas at 2 in the morning!!!!!

you could just one stapled in. Alternatively bind his fist to his face to encourage thumb sucking. I have often been tempted to inflate a rubber glove and put that in ds's cot as it could simulate a nipple in texture. I could lvea them dotted around so one is always 'handy'. dd had four dummies n her cot at any one time.

cut a penny sizeed hole in the palm of a cotton scratch mitten. poke teat of dummy through hole, put mitten on hand.

The cherry opnes work MUCH better imo- those little flattish ones just fall right out again (trust me, I'm a multiple reproducer )

Wilkinsons ones were best ime. And Lloyds Chemists do some too. The cheaper the btter, for some bizarre reason.

Well if your son is waking up every 12 mins (which is a well know torture for a parent trying to sleep) now you might as well get rid of the dummy altogether - it may take him an hour or so to fall asleep for the first time but DO NOT GIVE UP! It will only take a few nights to sort it out and it is better than fiddling with the dummy. Believe me, you will never look back! Been there done that got rid of the dummy!

My dd used to have to have 2 in her hand and one dummy in mouth, she used to balance a 4th one on her shut eyelid ( i kid you not) and then she would go to sleep.

This was until she was about 3.

Every morning I would do a dummy hunt.

My twins have these blankets which have been a godsend. I often hear one slurping away on the little tags. Much easier to find than a dummy and you can chuck them in the wash.

I used to lie in bed at night listening to ds1 make those little suck-suck-suck noises, waiting for the 'plop' of the dummy on to the cot mattress and hoping against hope that he would be asleep enough not to care. He never was.

And then I would invent dummy-keeping-in devices in my head...like those helmets with teeth-braces that kids in American films wear.

I remember being so thrilled when I found a glow-in-the-dark dummy in Boots. What a genius idea! I'll be able to find the dummy and pop it back quickly into his mouth without him wailing. I forgot babies don't have glow-in-the-dark mouths...

Have always used dummy clips at night for both my dds - I know you're probably not supposed to but I always made/make sure that they were attached so that the strap wasn't long enough to be any danger.

By the time DD3 was 6months old, she was sleeping for less than 10 minutes at a time. She'd drop off, relax, dummy fell out, big screams!

I was exhausted and had taken to sleeping with her cot along side my bed, with my hand over her face to hold the dummy in.

Obviously not a very safe solution, but sleep exhaustion drives you to despair!

I'd absolutely had enough. On the same night I moved DD into her own room and chucked the dummy in the bin.

Yeah she cried, but only for half an hour max. Then she went to sleep............til morning!!!

It was a harsh way of doing things, but it worked and we both slept like babies!
