My 9wk old son recently has been acting as if he is fighting sleep, he is drinking a full bottle (6oz) as he is a very big boy but he just doesn't seem to be settling down to sleep after! Today for example he must have sleep for a total of 1.30/2hrs in 20min/30min spells from early morning and we were out walking and at the park in his pram all afternoon as well. Now he is fighting sleep in his crib, closing eyes as if he is falling over then walking up with wide eyes and trying suck his hands! He won't take a dummy either. Help! x

You could try a light weight swaddle - like a giant muslin. Rocking in your arms may help too.

I think dummy will be crucial though. It sometimes does take some persistence until they 'get' comfort sucking a dummy.

Keep daytime naps very frequent. It's not a problem if the naps are short, but they need to be frequent (no more than 1h between naps at this age) to avoid over tiredness.

I have lots of experience with big babies, my youngest was 91st centile until about 12 months. You may find you get more calories into baby with more frequent feeds, rather than bigger feeds. For example

6oz bottles at 7am 11am 3pm 7pm
gives a total of 24oz over 12 hours.

Compared with:
4oz bottles at 7am 9am 11am 1pm 3pm 5pm 7pm
gives a total of 28oz over 12 hours

The physical size of baby's stomach limits how much milk baby can have in one go. But more frequent feeds get more calories into baby.
