Moving 6 month old to own room - logistics.

It's almost time for my baby to move into his own room! (Where has the time fine). I'm not anxious - apart from wondering about how he will get my attention. He still wakes in the night for a bottle, but doesn't cry, just babbles away, which gets more and more urgent - same in the morning - and same throughout the day when he is hungry. He rarely cries and I'm scared that by putting him in his own room he will need to cry to wake us up and get our attention, and that will encourage him to cry more in general to let us know he needs something. Is that the case? Would love to hear your experiences and advice.

Thank you.

He doesn't have to move at exactly 6 months. Mine stayed until 8 months and had dropped the night feed by then

Ah. Is it best to wait until no night feeds (please let that be soon!). I am happy to move him! He is SUCH a noisy sleeper. Plus we won't have to creep around at bedtime with the lights off.

We kept the monitor besides our bed so we could hear the early babbles before she got to crying.

I didn't move baby until consistently sleeping through. It's much easier to feed/resettle without having to physically get up and walk to another room each time.

Once sleeping through and moved to own room, a baby monitor is enought to hear baby usually.

ElspethFlashman · 11/06/2017 18:52

Errrr.....you don't have a monitor? Why not?

dementedpixie · 11/06/2017 18:56

A monitor is not compulsory and where does she say she doesn't have one?

I only used a monitor when we were downstairs and the kids were upstairs in their cot. I didn't use it between bedrooms

NapQueen · 11/06/2017 18:56

Els maybe they dont need one? We never had one.

ElspethFlashman · 11/06/2017 19:16

I guess then we must have V thick walls!

FATEdestiny · 11/06/2017 20:22

Under 6 months old, I can't think of any reason to need a baby monitor since baby should always be in the same room as parent when sleeping.

After 6 months though, or once baby starts sleeping/napping in a room alone, they are usually required.

Not to worry, if op doesn't have one now is the time to buy one.

I do have a monitor. Just a bit worried that might not wake me up until he gets really grumpy! But we rarely use it as he is with us all of the time. I was just wondering what others did.

I will follow your advice and keep him in with us until he sleeps through (although I know some friend's kids who are over 2 and still don't sleep through!).
