Hello

Just wanted people thoughts as to what could be the issue with my DS. He is 19 weeks old.

From about 8 weeks he would sleep 8-4 have a bottle, then go back to sleep till about 7 (sometimes he would not settle that easily but usually went back to sleep eventually)

However the last 3-4 weeks he's been all over the place, some nights he does the above and some nights he wakes every hour!! A couple of times when he has woken up a couple of hours after going down he's self soothed back to sleep. But during the night this never happens, sometimes he'll settle with a dummy, sometimes we need to (gently) hold his arms or legs otherwise he flails and fidgets. We still feed him at least once when he won't be settled back to sleep. Daytime naps are okish- he usually has 3 but they vary in length. Is this just a phase? Or am I doing something which means he can't get himself back to sleep? Any advice or similar stories would be welcomed! It's so tiring.

Sorry just to add he had a cold which he is still congested from, which I'm sure doesn't help , but he started all over the place before that. We've also had an issue with him passing BM very very frequently, but I don't know if that coincided with the cold, as it's slowed a little now.

I don't know what "passing BM" means?

Unless the naps you mention are all over an hour, he may need more daytime sleep. The 'dummy in and firm hands to hold him still' is a good settling technique.

It could also be calorific needs. Could baby have bigger or more frequent daytime feeds?

Sorry its bowel movements, they've slowed now, not sure if it was related to his cold. I can never get him to nap longer than about 45 mins in the morning, the lunchtime nap is usually a little longer, then the 3rd is 45 mins again. I will try and offer him a little more see if it helps

45 minute naps are quite usual at this age. Only having 3 naps is less so. To get more daytime sleep it is usually necessary to reduce awake time between naps.

Try putting baby back down to sleep after 90 minutes awake.
