7.5 month old bed time

Hi all

First post so bear with me!

DW and I have wonderful 7.5 mo DS. Wanted to ask for advice on his sleep.

We have been working a fairly flexible schedule for his sleep, in that we aim to get him to nap after he has been awake for 2~ hours. Recently we have seen his awake time naturally stretch to 2.5/3 hours which is expected as he approaches dropping a nap.

We can only get him to nap in his pram, not the end of the world apart from when it's raining anyway!! We have tried to get him to nap at the same time each day or in his cot but he won't have it if he hasn't been up for long and never in his cot.

Bed time can fall anywhere between 7pm and 8:30pm which is roughly where it should be. He still wakes up once a night for a feed then (usually) goes straight back down. Recently been waking between 5am and 6am.

A couple days ago he only napped twice, which meant his bedtime was going to be about 6pm. We kept usual routine (bath, bottle etc) and he went down very easily...then slept 11.5 hours straight Shock

I guess my question to you all is, have others that use the 'awake time' schedule just gone with it or have you always had a set bedtime regardless? Worried about over-tiring him but also would some structure help?

Thanks

I used the 'awake time' schedule until baby was ready to drop to 2-nap days. Then I started establishing the two naps at set times (I did 9am and 1pm). I would also set a no-later-than morning time too. So wake baby if not awake by 7am, for example.
