after a rocky start, my dd became a champion sleeper. now, at 20 weeks, everything has gone to shit.

she learned to roll about 2-3 weeks ago and is now desperate to crawl. she was throwing herself around the crib a bit but was able to be settled with either a bit of shhpat or picking up and rocking to sleep (in bed, not standing up).

but now a small thing she had every now and then of compulsively rubbing her face in her sleep has turned into a massive issue. it is all she does. she wakes herself up with it at least once an hour and i am wrecked. the only thing that stops her (and gets her some sleep) is for me to physically restrain her arms. i lean over into the cosleeper to do this but last night it was happening so much i brought her on to the bed to do it. i barely slept all night and when dh came to relieve me in the morning i burst into tears.

she is ff but dropped her night feeds (due to sleeping so well!) two months ago. she has never been swaddled, so this isn't a "wow, i've got arms!" thing. she naps well (3-4 naps a day, usually about 30-40 mins, sometimes more) but yesterday she took three large naps (1hr20, 1hr50, 1hr30) so now i'm worried that her sleep will go topsy turvy.

do i just ride it out? how can i get her to self soothe if she won't calm down without being held? she already takes a dummy, reluctantly, but this is getting spat straight back out at night now.

I would just ride it out by holding her hands as she goes to sleep. A tightly tucked in sheet/blanket might help pin her arms down a bit.

It's likely to be an over tired action she does, a way to get herself to sleep.

i've tried to do that but she's very strong and her arms are really thrashing about.

our room is quite warm at present which isn't helping, but there's nothing i can do about it (we have a fan already).
